Now she's dead. I regret the pain and loss of human life, but why capture a tiger and put her in a big cage in the first place? She was just acting like the wild cat she was, and I'm sorry for the waste of such a magnificent animal. If Tatiana had been left in the wild, the same scenario would not have occured. Poor kitty.

Much to my dismay at the loss of both a person and a tiger, putting the blame solely on the zoo, might not be fair. No one knew or expected this to happen. The zoo visitors and even personnel weren't expecting a tiger to escape, and when issues had happened last time (with the same tiger) they did their best to keep the exhibit safe (including additional reinforcements).
Some animals are endangered and are placed in captivity so that we can protect them, and study them. In order to preserve them, we need to understand as much as possible and to some effect, some zoos do this. They also bring awareness to the people (children and adults alike). We also should be aware that because of hunting and poaching, some animals are safer within captivity than they are free in the wild.
Tatiana had been transferred from another zoo to San Francisco. I don't know if she was born in captivity or taken from her own environment but she was a wild animal and expected to act like one. If there was something that could have been done, was for the police to tranquilize her immediately rather than shoot her when she posed further threat.
And know, I’m not pointing the finger at the police department. They had to keep the tiger from further injuring or even killing more people but by same token, was it necessary to put her down? Did they have tranquilizer guns with them? If not, maybe something can be done for the sake of future animals and humans alike.
These are just my two cents however. I won’t blame anyone yet and I certainly will not blame the tiger for being herself.

Tatiana was born in captivity in the Denver zoo. She was transfered to the San Francisco zoo in 2005 hoping she would mate with another Siberian tiger. She has never escaped before. She has mauled a zoo keeper last year while she was in a cage. It was determined that it was the zoo's fault for that incident, not the Tiger. These are wild animals that are very aggressive by nature.
I feel sorry for The Tiger more than the human victims. Investigators have found evidence that the Tiger was taunted before the attack. If these guys taunted the animal and helped it escape, they deserved to die.
I think this was a waste of life and a magnificent animal

Zoos are doing a good thing by breeding these wild endangered animals in captivity. Siberian tigers are endangered because they are over-hunted.
That said, yes, someone at the zoo dropped the ball. The loss of human life is MORE tragic in this situation, because humans at a zoo should not have to come face to face with a 350 pound wild, hungry carnivore.
It's sad that Tatiana had to be killed because of human error. But in the whole scope of things, Tatiana would likely have been dead long ago, hunted for her teeth, whiskers, and skin, if she had been in the wild "where she belonged."
I hope a thorough investigation is done and that the zoo remains closed until answers are found. There is NO excuse for a man to have died at the claws and teeth of a tiger while dining at a cafe at the zoo.

It wasn't a handler but a zoo worker who was feeding it and the tiger got a paw through the fencing, although the zoo has claimed to the bbc website that they improved cage security after the incident.
But cats are intelligent animals (I like to think of them in the same way as the raptors from Jurassic Park) and if there's a weakness then they'll exploit it. And why the hell not?
Personally I'm not sure it's a shame it's dead. It attacked 3 people, killed one and could have enangered many other lives. If it is so wrong to keep animals in a zoo it was probably a sweet release for the tiger to be killed as releasing it into the wild is hardly the most viable solution.
And I'm pretty sure if it had been a child that was maulled the reaction would be slightly different.
Still blaming the zoo?

Is the zoo Fault...i feel so sad when i read in the news that they kill Tatiana, as many of u i think tiggers are wild animals and they shouldn't be in a cage. She was acting as a Tigger. I hope they keep the zoo close for ever and return all the animals to their natural habitat. About the humans lost im sorry too but not much as i am for Tatiana.

Authorities remain unsure of how the tiger escaped, it is clear that somehow the animal traveled over over a 20-foot wall and a 15-foot moat. Initially, authorities worried four of the zoo's five tigers had escaped.
EDIT: Authorities are reportedly investigating whether one or more of the three victims in a Christmas Day tiger mauling at the San Francisco Zoo may have somehow provoked a Siberian tiger to leap out of its enclosure.
Crime scene evidence indicates someone may have climbed the tiger's enclosure and possibly even dangled a leg or body part over the edge of the moat surrounding the animal's cage, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

I was there at the zoo on Christmas. There were 3 guys. The 17 yr old guy was with his 2 friends and they were brothers. so he wasn't at the zoo alone. I seen them while i was at the zoo and they seemed like they were there to mess around. So they must have been taunting it or throwing things at it that made it mad and wanting to kill. When i seen them walking around at the zoo it did seem kinda strange. I ate at the Terrance cafe and i been in the lion house and seen the Siberian tiger and like 2 hours later it ends up died and one of the guys died. can u believe that? I think it was there fault and they shouldn't have made the tiger mad.

I am so sad when an animal dies because of human error. And you are right, Tatiana was only being true to her nature, she is not a lawn ornament. I used to really dislike zoos, but with so many natural habitats being threatened, and zoos instituting breeding programs to re-introduce animals into the wild, I have softened my position. Still, killing Tatiana for being a tiger makes no sense to me.
P.S. I hope that's your dog in your avatar, she looks like a sweetie!
P.P.S, I'd like to go on record as being in favor of the Coopster, he has my vote!

I agree . I was saying the exact same thing today to my fiance , It's not good that the man died, but i'm an animal lover and i feel more sad about the tiger :(
It said in the same story that not that long ago a zoo keeper was mauled to death by one of the animals . I feel sorry for all the animals in the zoo, they must get bored .

It is the fault of the zoo and whoever the administrator is for the tigers. This tiger reportedly escaped once before. She should have been moved to a better zoo with better determents for the big cat.
There was no time to wait for a Tranq gun. That tiger was killing people and she was probably pretty desperate/miserable to have escaped her confines. She is at the Rainbow Bridge, which is a much better place than here.
