My daughter is 3 1/2 and has patches of what looks like cradle cap on her scalp. I have been using Selsum Blue on it for weeks and it helped a litte. The patches are coming off and taking her hair with it which is causing her to have a small bald spot on the top of her head. Any suggestions on products to use or insight to what it might be and how to get rid of it.

I agree that Selsum may be too harsh but that is what the doc told me to do. She said I should even leave it on her head for a couple min to let it work more.

Cradle cap isn't usually found on children over 6 months. Check out the Wikipedia link, and look at atopic dermatitis.

I would definitely reccommend that you stop using a dandruff shampoo, because they are formulated for adults, and may be causing some of the hair loss in your little girl.

For cradle cap (if that's what it is) rub in a little olive oil or mineral oil into the affected area, and leave on overnight. In the morning, gently brush off the loosened scales.

If you don't see any improvement in a few days, take her to the pediatrician. It may be something more complex, like eczema or a psoriasis of some type.

Best of luck!

You definitely should NOT be using Selsum Blue. Do u know how harsh that is to not only adults but probably ruining your poor daughters scalp. Just put some baby oil on it and massage it gently with an infant brush. When newborns have cradle cap, the hair taken away with the patches as well.

Cradle cap is generally caused by baby getting extra hormones from mom's milk when she breastfeeds. If she's 3 1/2 that's probably not it. More likely to be some type of eczema or psoarisis. But if her hair is falling out because of the Selsun Blue, you should probably check in with the pediatrician. Maybe you're using the wrong thing and you don't want to damage her scalp.

Try Johnson baby shampoo and don't wash her hair more then once or twice a week. See if that helps. If it doesn't then u need to take her to the doctor and see what he says.Good luck...
