When my garage was robbed I had no pictures or receipts but they took my box of owners manuals as proof I had ever owned things. I have a 6 car garage so it would have been strange if I didn't own tools and air compressors and things especially since I had the big tool box and air hoses still.
They had to pay but canceled my insurance.

As has previously been mentioned your insurers will probably ask for manuals/instructions/packaging as proof of ownership of these items. Insurers understand that not everyone keeps receipts so they will estimate the value of these items.

Well, you'll have to come up with SOMETHING to prove they exist. Not every item, but about half.

Credit card receipts, holiday pictures with the "stuff" in the backround, etc.

without proof that you ever owned or possessed an item it will be difficult yo collect from the insurance company.
