I'm thinking of switching to latin because it will help me on the SAT and It looks better on a college app. or
Chinese because china is becoming a super-power in the world and will probably be very helpful in buiness.
The french(in my opinion) are not contributing to the world, so its pretty useless. In the US nobody speaks french but I love taking French. I'm so confused

for lil.mama, Obviously you can read correctly because I'm not backstabbing the french.
Reality check, when was the last time who heard the french do something great in the world on international news... NEVER. If they make contributions, tell me then, because obviously the rest of the world doesn't think so. I never said I hated them and I'm not il-educated. So, leave you anti-american comment to yourself.
Sorry to everyone else in my lost of temper.

Uh, YEAH! Definitely take Latin or Chinese...Chinese is really hard so I would probably take Latin(I want to go into medical field) but if your up to the challenge and want a career in business or selling stuff, then I would go for the Chinese.

Well you dont have to spend your life in the US! I live in england and french is really useful because of all the EU stuff which takes place in Brussels (the capital of Belgium) and french is the language spoken there. And you cant say the EU isnt contributing to the world - they practically rule a continent! My dads work is making him learn french because his job involves negotiating with the rest of the EU about electricity and gas supplies (which I think is an important issue for the future of the world).
Or you could travel North a bit to french speaking Canada! If you enjoy french then go for it - any main world language is good! As for latin and chinese - your right that chinese would be very useful but it is very tricky and latin is a competely dead language, french is much more useful.
And, in my opinion, the french contribute greatly to the world. Think of the food!

Taking any language will help you if you ever try to learn others. In usefullness within the US probably Spanish and Arabic would be your best bets. Depending on what you want to do eventually Chinese or Japanese are good languages as well as China is a superpower and Japan controls technology.
In general, no one language is necessarily better than another. Take what you want, and if you're really worried, than take more than one. It can never hurt.

I think french is a good language to learn. If you take both latin and french you can have to best of both worlds. The biggest mistake I ever made was dropping french as it really is enjoyable to speak and write.

I am french and obviously you are not well educated. Just because we are not Americans who only want to go to war with every country and we are more civil, well educated people, that does not mean we do not contribute. We just contribute positively, not negatively. Every language is important, especially in today's world of diversity. Why not try to challenge yourself and learn several languages, and how about not looking to learn something just because it will look good on a resume. How about self satisfaction or self worth? Learn a language because you have interest in the culture, not because you think it will be an easy credit. Do some research before you say such things about French people. Myself and most people I hang out with speak over 5 languages, because we are well educated and worldly, and positive contributors to society, you could take some lessons from the French.

I'm learning both French and Russian at alevel currently.
I do feel that Spainish may have been a better choice over French though. Simply because of the amount of people throughout the world who speak it.
But i wouldn't say that French is useless.

French is a beautiful language, but you're right, it's usefulness is limited if you don't plan to do visit/work in French speaking countries.
Learn sign language or Spanish (as it's growth in the USA is the fastest)

Interestingly I met a spaniard in Algeria who had never studied anything but spanish and yet he was able to transition to speaking French without much difficulty. I spoke broken Spanish with him and was thus given an in depth comparative study of the 2 languages side by side. I had taken one semester of Spanish but that was enough to get me started.
Im currently retired and trying to improve my Spanish through TV, internet on the street---noe of which would be possible had I not studied French as intensely as i did !
So I would say take them both !
I can't think of any world shaking discoveries/advances brought on by Spain !

French is used not only in France but in the USA, like New Orleans, French Canada, several islands in central America, French Poloniesia, and a large portion of the West Coast of Africa. It's a pretty useful language. I think they only speak Mandarin in China, and of course Latin is use only in the Vatican.

Why not take both languages? After all, Latin is the base root of French anyway.
