started a new job a month ago, didn't go in one day because I was ill, and today I didn't go in because of he holiday travel and was extremely tired. My manager was disappointed, she said she was kinda counting on me. She called me back and told he to sit tight because the office is very quiet and that she will see me tomorrow.
should I be worried

The Good News: you won't get fired tomorrow.. they would have done that already if they were gonna do it. But...

Bad: your on your way out in their eyes. if you do anything else in the near future, (and you may not even think it that bad) they will probably let you go. you may not even do anything, they may just wait a week or so and then cut you loose. If I were you I'd go and apologize to your boss for not being there and recommit to being a hard worker to him/her and DONT screw up at all in the near future if you want to keep your job, or else you can start looking for a new one.

Less than a month and already missed two days, the sick well maybe believed the second too tired from traveling, shows that you are not a team player and not dedicated to your work. If I where you would start looking for another job because you have already screwed up this one. Just a matter of time or one more stupid mistake and you will be gone. Good luck

I don't think it sounds like you should be too worried as your manager has said that the office was quiet, so by her saying that, that tells me that your absence didn't cause them too much problems.

If you told her you didn't come in because you were too tired, that might count against you, as tiredness is not a good enough reason to take time off work. She might think that this meant you were out partying last night and slept in and couldn't be bothered coming to work.

Just let her know that you had no way of getting into work, you are really sorry and you will make sure next holidays that come up that you have your transportation to work pre arranged.

I definitely don't think they will fire you over this as employers have to go through certain disciplinary procedures before they can fire a member of staff.

Good luck =]

When you first start a job its important to really show that you are dependable and committed to working their. Which means if you feel like you are coming down with a little cold - take some daytime meds, bundle up, drink lots of tea, even have chicken soup for lunch - but go to work.

If you are tired - trow your hair in a bun, put on your favorite comfy clothes, stop for your favorite latte with an extra shot - but go to work.

If you not, to an employer you look flaky, uninterested in the job, and unprofessional. They haven't invested much time and money in to you. I hope you have an opportunity to prove that you are worth keeping. Don't take off time for at least 3 months! And then if you have an appointment come in early and leave an hour or two early with no lunch...

Work sucks..But for the love of money!! Good luck

If you were my employee, you would be on the short list for layoffs/terminations.

2 days in less than 20 work days and really less than that because of the holiday? Great start, you have already missed over 10% of your scheduled days.

Our of curiosity have you seen the ads & sales this Christmas? Have you read a paper and seen how many jobs have been lost/downsized / offshored and closed in the past couple years?

We are in a recession and times are tough. Tell me, how long did it take you to find THIS job?

If I were you I would be kissing my bosses butt and hoping that she really likes you.

Good luck

If I were you, I would be on my best behavior and not call out for any reason for at least 3 months--- 6 would be even better. Your boss does not have to give you any warning that you're on thin ice. It's nice if they do, but it's not required. You can be fired at any time without warning and you've used up two no-shows; don't be surprised if the next time they tell you to just not come back.

Honestly, being tired from traveling isn't a strong reason to miss work when you are scheduled to be there. It certainly could be a justifiable reason to fire you.

If you have missed work twice in your first month that would raise a red flag to any employer that this could be a pattern of behaviour that will continue.

I am sure they would give you a warning first before they would actually fire you.. but this would be a legitimate way to fire you. what did she mean by sit tight ? also what kind of work do you do ? and what excuse did you tell your manager today ?

They should give you a warning that you will get fired. But if you were ill than there is no need for her fire you. If you were out holiday shopping then she would probably understand that Christmas is very important you.
