I recently moved my one silkie bantam into the computer room and I had an idea: go to youtube.com and play silkie bantam clucks and such. We're getting 2 more silkie bantams in Spring b/c they don't have them in the winter. Is it a good idea to keep playing these sounds? Or will she think that she was spoken to and then left after the video is over? What else can I do to keep her company until Spring?

My impression is that chickens don't give much thought to anything. They just enjoy it, or not, as the case may be. It might be a nice stimulation. If you observe your bird reacting negatively, you can always stop doing it.

All hens lay unfertalized eggs no matter what, unless there is a rooster to, well..... ya know. The only exceptions are when they are too old, sick, or molting. The only reason you would need a rooster is if you want to hatch chicks. All hens will lay eggs with or without a rooster. The silkie chicken is actually just a differant breed of chicken, exept the fluffy feathers are a genetic defect which was developed into the fuzzy wuzzy little birds you see today. My silkies lay small white eggs and cream eggs. Make sure to do research on chickens before you get them, because it isn't as easy as some people say. Dont just get one chicken, because they'll get lonely.
