The Omphalos Hypothesis states that God created the Earth recently, but made it look old. There aren't any observations that would confirm or falsify the hypothesis.

So why do Young Earth Creationists so readily accept it, and reject the Theory of Evolution, which is based on observations?

Because it is necessary in order to believe that the Bible is literally true. And many people base their entire faith on the concept that the Bible is literally true. How they do that, I can't begin to explain. Makes no sense to me.

We all want answers that we like!

Some just can not wait to have true ones so they fill in the Gaps!
Some with Gap theory others with The Omphalos Hypothesis!

The 'I don't have an answer' is very hard for some people!

Theory of Evolution, is rather complex and would take deep study to be truly understood, and causes conflicts with the base of their belief system.
Therefore finding a way to hind the problem is easier than facing it!

Sorry but as an Atheist I knew evolution was not real and that the method they cooked up to date earth at billions of years is fake. I was taught evolution as truth growing up. So I had no belief in God I did all the research to be totally convinced that the young earth creationist's view is true. The evidence only supports Bible so sorry cant go into the land of Hypotheticals on that. Other than I would do my best to find the person that got the evidence and be their lover cause with all the rewards offered by Christians for proof that person would be very rich.

people form an opinion based on what they see. just because you think it looks old doesn't mean it is. the only problem i have with evolution is that it teaches one species can spawn another totally different species. ie. a dog gave birth to a horse. i believe in variation of kind. you can breed a beagle to a great dane and get something wacky looking, but it would still be a dog. even with the stangest mutation it would still be a dog. and to say that mutation after mutation could sawn a new species goes against what science says about selective breeding in the wild. no self respecing dog would breed with another that looked like it had been threw a meat grinder.

Im not sure about the Ompaolos Hypothesis but I have read enough that disproves all the "icons of evolution" and its theory in general to not place any trust in it what so ever.

Ah, they want to make science fit in with theology instead of having things that were once accepted as divine being challenged by science.

Omphalos is Greek for belly button.

Just thought that needed to be said. :-)

It's the one thing that they can state that reconciles faith and science and that requires no backpedaling in the face of new evidence.

The theory of evolution is bogus. Micro-evolution is observable and is fact. But guess what it is? ADAPTATION!!!!! Macro-evolution is not observable and is a joke. Adam and Eve were created as full grown adults. God could have done the same with the universe. In fact, He probably did, but I am not 100% on that.

I need no excuses for the way the world appears. It was created as explained in the Bible.
