If the height is 9 feet, that is 118 in inches. A typical stair riser might be 8 inches. Divid 118" by 8" and you get about 15 steps(14.75 and round up). The 118 height is the upright leg of the triangle. The typical depth of a step is 10" so multiply 10 x 15 steps and you get 150 inches and this is the leg of the triangle that lies on the floor.
You end up with 15 steps about 10' deep. Since the total run (hypoteneuse) of the triangle is (118x118= 13924) and (150 x 150 =22500). Add 13924+22500 and take the square root or 36424 square root = 190.8 inches, or 15.9 feet.
This is the section of stairs you would likely need to make into 2 hinged sections. Or roughly 2 x 8 inch long sections.
