when doing your taxes , do you put your gross wages or your gross taxable wages on the line that says wages, salaries,tips ect.

You would put your Gross Taxible Wages (which is line 1 on your W-2)

It says "Wages, tips, other compensation" but, it leaves out amounts such as 401(k) contributions and section 125 health insurance premium payments.

From your W-2 you enter the amount from Box 1, wages, tips, other compensation on your form 1040A for starters.

You are clearly trying to fill out the 1040A by using your last paycheck stub. Remember, you must WAIT until you get your W-2 to file.
