They don't happen often, but they're annoying at times, and I find them nerdy and embarassing! I'm having one right now, and blood is dripping all over my face and clothes!

Does "inappropriate time", mean when you are nervous or excited? If that's the case, it is more than likely due to a temporary elevation in blood pressure. Also with winter and the heat being turned on, the air in our homes is much dryer causing nose, throat and skin irritation. At any rate, it may be a good idea for you to be checked out by your MD. In the meantime, you can get over the counter, normal saline, nasal spray to soothe nasal airways. That may help. Good Luck.

If they occur frequently and quite heavy, then you should see you doctor. Most nosebleeds occur because of a minor irritation or cold. Other common causes include injury, blowing the nose very hard, very cold or very dry air, allergic rhinitis, upper respiratory infection, blood thinners, nasal spray, chemical irritants, and repeated sneezing. Repeated nosebleeds can be a symptom of another disease such as high blood pressure, allergies, a bleeding disorder, or a tumor in the nose or sinuses. Occasionally a blood vessel in the nose needs to be cauterized. If it is currently very heavy, you need to see a doctor immediately, especially if you cannot stop it with pinching or ice.

That's why I always carry with me the Afrin nose spray or Vicks sinus nose spray. I get nose bleeds a lot too. Sometimes this stops them right away before they get full blown dripping in blood.

It could be high blood pressure, that is nothing to mess with, get it checked ASAP. Hopefully, it's something simple like low humidity or just plain dryness in the air, only your doctor can tell you exactly.

unless you are a prize fighter, there is no appropriate time for a nosebleed. Suggest you carry a handkerchief with you for those times when your nose does bleed, and of course stop doing cocaine. ;)
