It depends: are you male or female? Your body fat is a little too high for a man; I want to say the cutoff is 21%. You wouldn't pass the rope and choke at MEPS to even get into bootcamp. The easiest way to bypass this is to suck in your gut as hard as you can when they're measuring your waist, then puff out your neck as best you can when they're measuring your neck. Unless you already excercise like a maniac, you should be able to lose enough weight in bootcamp to pass the rope and choke legitimately at the end. If you feel the body fat % is in error, and you don't really have that much fat, you can request a more accurate measuring method, but unless you REALLY want in, I don't think it will be worth the hassel. For a woman the allowable body fat is 32% because of the extra subcutaneous fat layer, so you would be fine. Hope that helps!

22% is max for Navy requirements. I am 6'3" and about 222 and by the Navy's way of figuring body fat I am at 19-20%. It depends on your body build. A friend of mine lifts all the time and it like 30 pounds over because of muscle but he makes it fine body fat wise.

Even though you are at 22% you are allowed 23% as a male.
What I would do if I was you is watch your calorie intake for one to two weeks and do alot of running and cardio workouts, and get retaped. I am sure they will work you out enough in basic to were you should be down in the 16-18% area. Just remember phyiscal fitness is a major role in a military life. Keep yourself in shape and in the top phyisical condition is your most important goal. Besides your carreer once you get in...

240 pounds is considered obese for someone who is only 6' tall. You are more than 50 pounds over the maximum weight according to the AMA Healthy Weight charts.

If your recruiter tells you that you the Navy will accept you, they'll get that weight off of you in boot camp!

According to the link, you meet BF requirements. You don't want to be picked on when you go to bootcamp. It's better if you were under the body fat requirement. Better if you met the weight. If you meet the height-weight req, they will not measure your bf %. Though you may have met the requirement when you go to MEPS, they check your BF again when you get to Great Lakes.

I remember when I went to Great Lakes, the overweight recruits had to be on a diet. They limit the amount you eat during chow. I didn't look like it was fun for them.

Oh, it's been forever since I spoke to a recruiter. But it seems like I remember their max was 20%, but they wanted to get to 15-18% by the end of boot. The recruiter should be able to tell you exactly.
