Since your boyfriend has agreed to go your separate ways it could mean that his love for you wasn't that great (i am sorry to have to say this).
Examine what was the main factor causing your split-up . Unless it was due to some outside force/s beyond both your control, i do not really see your point of wanting to know if he was truly in love with you.
