Here's a real easy and simple one to make. The proportions will depend on how much you make.
Brown ground beef/lamb (includes onions, garlic, canned crushed tomatoes during cooking).
Mashed potatoes (I also like to mash the potatoes with carrots).
In a casserole dish, layer the meat, then canned creamed corn, and then the potatoes.
Sprinkle the top with grated parmesan cheese and bake in the oven (covered) at 375F for 30 minutes. remove the cover and broil the top until browned.

I make shepards pie by frying the hamburger with onions, celery, carrots, bell peper, tomato, and what ever other chop vegetables I have in the fridge at the time.(hopefully a few mushrooms) salt, pepper, thyme, garlic powder. When its done, put it in your serving dish, I make a bit of beefy cream sauce and pour over the hamburger then layer the hamburger with frozen vegetables. I top that all off with garlic and chives mashed. Bake 20-30minutes , then I put grated cheese over the top and bake till cheese is melty.
When my mom made it she would always make like mine up util the sauce.. she would add a can of cream of mushrom soup to it and mix it with the hamber.

I don't measure. Just wing it.
Start with Hamburg on bottom on pan. Then a mixture of corn and cream of corn. Then top with mashed potatoes.
It really doesn't matter about measuring.
Don't forget to add onions to the hamburg while you fry it.

I don't precook my ground beef. I press it into a pan, season with pepper, chopped onions and garlic powder. Pour a can of corn (whole kernel or creamed) over it and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Cover with mashed potatoes. I cover the pan with foil and cook at 350 for one hour. Pour off the collected fat and serve.

Preparation Time 10 minutes
Cooking Time 65 minutes
Ingredients (serves 4)
1 tbs olive oil
1 brown onion, halved, finely chopped
1 carrot, peeled, finely chopped
2 celery sticks, trimmed, finely chopped
500g lamb mince
2 tbs plain flour
500ml (2 cups) beef stock
1 dried bay leaf
1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 tbs tomato paste
Salt & freshly ground black pepper
4 (about 200g each) desiree potatoes, peeled, chopped
40g butter
125ml (1/2 cup) milk
Melted butter, to brush
Method
Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onion, carrot and celery and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until soft. Add lamb mince and cook, stirring to break up any lumps, for 5 minutes or until lamb changes colour.
Add the flour and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes or until combined. Add stock, bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or until sauce thickens. Taste and season with salt and pepper.
Meanwhile: cook potato in a saucepan of salted boiling water for 15 minutes or until tender. Drain well. Return to the pan with the butter. Use a potato masher or fork to mash until smooth. Add milk and use a wooden spoon to stir until combined. Taste and season with salt and pepper.
Preheat oven to 200°C. Spoon lamb mixture into a 2L (8-cup) capacity ovenproof baking dish. Top with mashed potato and use a fork to spread over lamb mixture. Brush with butter. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or until mashed potato is golden brown. Serve immediately
