A purge OF the religious?
Pay attention - it's the religious folks who are busy with the purges.
I'm afraid that I have to respectfully disagree with Pangel - it is the more tolerant religions that will disappear, not the less tolerant ones. Tolerance has no survival value for a religion.

I appreciate your hopefulness on this, Pangel. Keep it up.

The next war?
Every war is associated to religion in one way or another.
Atheists don't like religion, see it as harmful, but hate violence even more.
The biggest difference between Atheists and God's followers is that we Atheists won't start a war over belief.
People claim that wars are not the result of religions, but without the hope of an afterlife, there would be far fewer volunteers for war. Economics drives war, need and want drive war, but religion gives people the motivation and mentality to carry it out.
Some of the worst economic situations around the world, are a result of religious belief, or at the least are justified by it.
The next big war is going to be religious, because they always are, but it will probably be fought between Muslims and Christians.

no matter how much they might want to try, having a war to get rid of religion would never happen. There are too many brainwashed fools and as long as the government and laws are based in religious morality, (seperation of church and state my a**) it can never happen. Not to mention, how many religion would they try to get rid of? too many to take on all at once don't you think? If anything it will just happen over time as people wake up to the fact that we are alone in a godless, meaningless, and hostile universe. the only thing that makes any sense is live a life that makes you happy and even helps out make the world a better place, don't need a god to tell you that do you?

All wars are, at their base, economic. We can throw in the religious distraction as a red herring anytime we choose.
Occupation is another matter. The Viets rid themselves of colonialism, the Palestinians fight from the world's largest prison camp in Gaza (which Egypt doesn't want back), and the Afghans are fighting to remove the West.

purge? Like an ethnic cleansing?
You cant see the jws turning to a secular society, nor being eradicated as a race ...nor the buddist, hindu, or muslims ...
I see an uprising ... the brother hood of man including all religions opposed to secular societies; holding fast in peace, opposing strife, blood shed, and intolerance.

there is definitely an us and them attitude around the world right now for sure...
I dont think this is religious and non religious
it is love against hate
tolerant against intolerance
respect against bias
and I think this gap will grow wider
and these two groups include religious and non religious in both camps
and it WILL weed out some of the less tolerant religions
edit
Paul ...
I believe the quieter voices are getting louder
and I live in hope

Wars happen because of greed. Religion is just a scapegoat.
