The U.S. will surely be a key player in the war that's for sure... They've always been a major force in wars during the past 1 3/4 centuries... It wouldn't be a surprise if they're one of the leading forces in the war as well...
Currently, the countries who seem to be on the verge of declaring a war are those on the Middle East, especially Iran... It seems to be the one who's so intent on disapproving of the way U.S. keeps insisting on cutting on the nuclear programs of Iran...
On the other side of the globe, I see China as another force of power that shouldn't be taken lightly... The Sleeping Giant has the man-power and the resources, but it seems that it has a hard time on convincing it's own people to work for them... What with so many Chinese people illegally sneaking out of the country and all...
Of course the major countries of Europe like Britain, Germany, France will also be involved, but not so much as they seem to have learned from the past of how wars created a lot of problems for them economically and psychologically... Europe doesn't look so concerned with war unlike the U.S. and it seems to be more inclined in strengthening it's economy more...
Japan too, would be willing to use its resources and technology, but like Europe, it wouldn't voluntarily do so unless there was a good enough reason for them... They too, have learned their lesson after being bombed by the US during WW2 where many people died...
During this year, some months ago, North Korea was having problems with their missiles reaching Chinese and Japanese territories... Their missile testing is an indication that they are developing weapons for future use... And what better use would it have than to blast the enemy to smithereens...
The way things are currently going in the Middle East, It is highly possible that World War 3 may begin there... It is common knowledge in the world that Mid-East hates America... The way I see it, Arab nations would unite and attack Israel first, since it's closest, and it's practically an ally of the US... From then on, US sends reinforcements, seeks UN approval to retaliate, and if UN approves, an all-out war ensues... It wouldn't be a surprise if nuclear weapons would be used...
Other countries like North Korea could pitch in but it wouldn't be of any use to them since they're not involved with the Middle East or US... UN would most likely help US and it would let other UN members in helping out... Those who would help out are most likely from Britain, Japan, among others...
I don't exactly know how it would eventually end but worst case scenario would be a nuclear holocaust...

t could be 28 minutes from now or 280 years from now. When the superpowers square off against each other in two camps, then come back and we'll talk workd war 3.
Until then, just think regional conflicts, wars between rump states, proxy wars and brinksmanship. If you recall the Yom Kippur War in 1973, a coalition of Arab States (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) were soundly defeated by the Israelis. That was a worse situation than the current conflict and it didn't raise a blip on the world war radar (not that it didn't have the potential to spark a global war).
The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.
Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask when is the apacolypse, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.
Our biggest risk is an accidental launch of nukes by one of the nuclear powers.

The War will not be religious. It will be a resource war: a war fought over oil, water and other basic necessities needed to propser.
It'll most likely be America, Britain, France, Spain, Australia, Canada and Germany against the East (China, Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Russia).
As for who will win, nobody in theory will win because both sides will be damaged that bad.
World War II was meant to be the war to end all wars. Instead of getting a kick out destruction, we should try and establish peace otherwise this really could be the end of Humanity.

Hi - goodly question
Upshot is that no-one wins a war. Ultimately everyone loses the daft game.
But, I suppose that given the current scenario of things, it would basically be yet again West vs East.
As the UK holds the centre ground, as we have the Greenwich Meridian time-base for the whole planet, we have to both protect our commercial involments with the Mid-East, the Far East, and uor trans Atlantic "cousins".
Once again, Brits will rally to an international infernal uprising, between the rock & the hard place.
I have been lucky to have travelled the planet a bit, and in all my years of getting along very nicely with the citizens of many a country, I have never had so much as a bout of "fisticuffs".
It is the bleedin' polititions again that spark off a fight.
Swiss folks rightly decided to wash their hands of warfare, and generally came out OK.
Peace, please,
Bob

Ready for the truth?
WWIII will not be religious, we've moved passed that since the technological revolution. The next WW will be economical. And seeing as the middle east has always been a hotspot, now the most expensive export in the world - oil, is rich throughout that region. Not only that, but Iraq and Afganistan are currently state of emergencies...and guess what is between those countries?? Iran. Now chekc this...Israel is arch enemies with almost ALL of it Arab neighboors, with the exception of Qatar.
So with that being said, I think we know where it will occur. Now the question is, who else will participate.
I think it's safe the say most developed countries will intervene due to their dependence on oil and gas. i.e. The US, The Western European Union, etc
Russia has been pissing NATo off recently especially with the whole north pole incident, so they will most likely join, also because of their proximity.
China is also a big player in the conomy and will most likely join especially since they are close allies to Pakistan, who is training ground for terrorists - and i think it is safe to say terrorists will have their fare share in WWIII.
Also North Korea will participate because Kim Jong Ill is a lunatic. Think im baised? Look it up.
Possibly Peru will join because of their affiliation with N Korea, but that is mere speculation.
The Final word is that the major players on each side will be as follows
NATO (including the US, France yes France - they been threatening Iran, England, etc), The EU (Specifically the WEU, because that is the core of their Defense Force as agreed in their Reform Treaty) VS. Iran, Russia, N Korea, Most of the Arab League, and possible terrorist organizations (because they currently are at war with the "infidels")
If you dont believe me read the Book of Revelation :)

According to a book:
Nostradamus said that "The world war shall start after the mongols use weapons that disseminate rays of death. The war will take a new turn due to India's friendship with two most powerful countries in the world. The war shall end in the fifth year of the new century; that is , peace will be established in 2006. Europe will abjure its religion and accept the oldest religion in the world. 75% population will be destroyed in this war. A spiritual leader from South India will guide the world."
Although war has not taken place before 2006, this prophecy may be translated wrongly. Maybe his prophecy is wrong, We need not believe in Prophecies, we need to believe in establishing peace.

I will try to find the clips of these predictions but I think it is safe to say that Russia will be against the USA once again and support the Muslim world. China will come over from the east and a united nations force will also be involved.
Read Zech 14 and you will see this will also be a limited nuke war.

China, Russia, and North Korea in the Eastern Asia theater against the United States, Japan, and South Korea. In the West Asia theater it'll be the United States and Great Britain against Iran and Russia. I'm not sure how the U.S.'ll fair this time.
