Before you all jump down my throat I'd just like to say I'm not addressing all of you. I know many religious people are good, kind & welcoming, & I believe that's what religion is supposed to be about. Loving yourself, your neighbor, & ultimately trying to make the world a better place. That's great, & I wish all religious people had the same ideas. I would even be religious if it was evident that's what you were all trying to achieve. However, just from looking at the GLBT board, religion appears to be a despicable thing that caters for equally despicable people. All we hear is how you hate us, how we sin, how we are going to hell, how we are intolerable, just because of who we love. Where in the bible, ANYWHERE, does it encourage the harassment and abuse of ANYONE? The fact you're more concerned with expressing your irrational hatred than loving your god makes a mockery of all you say you believe in. It's a joke. How can you possibly justify such narrow minded, brutish behavior????

I learned early on way back in my high school days that Christian Tolerance is an oxymoron.
They are only tolerant of those who think like them... you venture off their beaten path and things will quickly change. Some will even get so angry that they forget the teachings of Jesus and his peaceful ideology and will actually wish to harm you with some good old fashion old testament style violence.

"Atheism is a requirement for a complete human being. Religion is a crutch that is shackled to you, one you never really needed in the first place, but were convinced by others that you couldn't live without. Once you discover it's only an illusion, that it's not even a real crutch, you discard it gladly." Brent Yaciw
The quote that I really wanted to find says, basically, that religion gives people the duty, instead of merely the right to look down their noses at others.
You're not going to Hell just because you are gay. Deep down, the ones who tell you that you will are seeking their own justification for being turds.

I think it's easy to hate with or without a religion. According to the bible, God chose the Jewish people to represent who he is, and his character. When the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, arrived he said that they had fallen short of God's expectations, and corrupted religion.
Since that time, Christians, predominantly non-Jews, have had their opportunities to serve, and as we can see from your comments, the cycle has repeated. When Jesus returns, he may be just as disappointed (or even more so) than he was the first time.
Jesus demonstrated true religion. He said to forgive if we want to be forgiven. He said we should love our enemies and pray for them (not against them). When people confessed sin, he offered consolation, forgiveness and encouragement (not condemnation).
Jesus showed us that religion is worth dying for, but not worth killing for.
I think god has made us to be holy and powerful and perhaps the seed of deity is already within us. If we want to be successful, we must learn to control who we are and what we do. We must learn to be good, and to respond to life and people in a good and loving way. I think this is the purpose for our lives.

Because those religious people are fundamentalists who think that their way is the right way and everyone else is wrong but also they will refuse to listen to reason.
These are the same people who would kill anyone who does not convert to their religion if they had it their way.
Again if they had it their way; they would do away with science because they view it as a threat.
Also according to their false claims is that without dedication, total loyalty to god people will be "evil" and yet a majority of inmates are religions. Go figure.

Partially because the word of God and the 'word of Satan' (thru deceit) has not been separated by 'Christians' world wide. The scriptural 'old testament' is the law of Moses; not Genesis-Malachi. (I can back it up if you email me here currently). People are fighting people, not Satan. (Eph.6:12, 1 Peter 5:8).

Well you have to realize that some people on there are only on there to cause trouble.
This is called TROLLS...
You really need to know what you're talking about, just because you only are addressing a few of us means nothing. You make assumptions that it's the person's religion that tells them to be rude to gays when most likely it was their parents, peers, the media, etc. that led them to have ill feelings towards others.

religion is not about being good. Religion is about being free.
Be true to yourself, and allow others to do the same and we will all face the judgment with confidence that we manifested all we were supposed to in our lifetime.
How can you justify your condemnation of ANYONE?

you are right that not all religious people are like this ...
but I too have been over to that section to see it for myself
and it is quite disgusting at times
remember though that in their own weird way ... they think what they are doing is out of love and are trying to save your souls
* rolls eyes *
I dont recall it ever saying that it was up to anyone but God to judge another though
please dont let them get to you

Jesus saw the hypocrisy also is His time on earth. Jesus said:
"Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, 'Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Thou HYPOCRITE, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."
I think it is just human nature to critisize others.
That is why in the Our Father prayer which is known so widely, it says "and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us..." - Jesus taught that prayer to us, as He knew what hypocrites humans are.
However, there are so many good people with righteous acts in the world, we tend to overlook. I think those keep their eyes on the Lord, not on what the other man is doing.
