No, Islam does not consider these things evil. And in fact, many Muslims disagree on whether or not music is in fact forbidden. There are many interpretations that vary from the extreme of no music at all, and those more lax that say it's okay as long as it's tasteful and doesn't keep you from performing your duties to God. As you see in the music industry, some people's entire lives are devoted to making music. But music should be something for fun in spare time. You have duties to your family, your society, your God, and when music interferes with those duties, that's the point when it becomes forbidden.

The music instrument issue is a controversial debated issue , some of the islamic scholars have come to conculsion that any thing which creates evil and sexual desires within the individuals should be prohibitied. there is a conflict in scholars opinion, the scholars that viewed it as harmful based their decision on a historical event, occured during the time of the prophet, the arabs were known of their poems, there were many types of poems, sexual ones , social ones, the prophet condemned the poems that promotes adultery. however, other scholars argued that listening to music instrument to relieve from the stress would help the individual to perform their duties, however the lyrics of the song have to be free of adultery and bad words.
the liberal socities which have allowed all types of arts on the expense of a lot of teenagers and people becoming addicted to them and destorying their lives through putting into practice what they regularly hear. the crime rate is dramatically increasing, adultery, porn industry, the gangsters music, those things affect the society.

These things are only considered evil in countries where a certain type of very extreme, fundamentalist form of Islam is practiced - called "Wahabi" Islam.
These Wahabi Muslims believe that there are sayings and traditions from the Prophet Muhammed that forbid these things.
Whabai Islam exists in a few countries - Saudi Arabia (where it originated, but is loosing ground recently), Afghanistan, parts of Pakistan, and parts of Yemen. Of course there are groups of Wahabies in many countries, but just those few have strict anti-culture policies.
Often, the case is that religion is used to counter things that people feel destroys their culture or way of life, especially if it comes from America where popular culture is becoming more obscene.

Music is not condemned in the Koran, but rather in the recorded utterances of the prophet Mohammed, who thought that music was a distraction from prayer and meditation. Art has never been condemened in Islam - think of Persian rugs - but it has been circumscribed by the prohibition against graven images, which censors the drawing or painting or sculpture of living things. TV is dangerous because it is so hard to control what is on it. In India it is illegal for a man and woman to kiss in public, and equally illegal to kiss on screen. It's the sexuality of the media that is so offensive to them. They have no objection to nature programs and news.
In spite of all this, music survived, as did dancing - belly dancing has a long history as does Dervish (Sufi) dancing.

Art may lead to idol worship by creating images that some person might pray to.
Music can be a distraction from one's awareness of Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, as well as leading to impure thoughts and mental imagaes.
Dance can be sexually suggestive and lead one to actiosn that or forbidden or to thoughts of these actions.
The various forms of the media serve as a distraction, are often suggestive and tend to promote thoughts and actions that are forbidden.
Think of this the next time you are listening to a sexually explicit lyrics, or see a sexually suggestive movie, watch how persons dance so as to be suggestive with their movements. The next time you have an opportunity to do so, visit a Cathollic church, or any Christian church that has statues or a cross displayed for adoration.
Ma'a salaam

It wasn't always like this. Islam has a long history of contributions to music, including music theory and the creation of the guitar and violin ancestors. Have you not seen the sensuous Persian and other folk and traditional dances? It has only been in modern times that Muslim purists have reacted to what they consider Western degradation of music and dance and in their usual style of over-kill condemned music and dance altogether.

If there are music shops in Afghanistan that means it's not against Islam
on other hand if there are some Christians on Ireland killing each others in the name of Christianity that doesn't mean killing is allowed in Christianity

first of all, all these things are not necessary to live nor does it help getting closer to Allah in any way...if youll notice, music and concerts lead to parties with 1 mixing genders, 2 alcohol (even sweet 16s!!!), 3 more than often, ....CD players more than often damage the ears of those who use them and basically for all these things, the good(un haram) fun and benefit gained out of them is in less amount compared to the harm it does to humans..
ever see our american soldiers in Iraq? what did we send them this christmas as well as last christmas? gifts consisting of cds, radios, dvds and "entertainment" right? and oh look at them, they kill and capture hundereds of people for no reason..blackwater is just one of these examples...no doubt its because of the lyrics of the musiq swirled in with their depression..most of them are young and think its just a video game..that blod spurting off an mother infront of her child is being patriotic and helping the world..its because of people like these that the middle east is so messed up....people like these have been ruinging their lives right after world war II, oh and what state was created then in a land that they had no right to?
TV in my view should just be restricted to news and non fiction for similar reasons. if we don't want to learn from it then in my view it has no use..unless you want yourself or your kid to be brainwashed with spongebob and dora crud...either that, or have every show that involves "adlt situations" meaning man and woman kissing and situations where a man and woman might engage them selves into a haram act yea all of those kind of shows should be blocked and every other show should have men and women with hijab (again not just the traditional head scarf but the dress code that applies to each gender)
fun in islam is fine..but not fun that could lead to you going out and copying those things that you see or hear and that could lead you to committing haram acts and acts that can hurt you or anyone else...
