Hey Debra
Happy Holidays to you - Boxing day is the day on which the servants went to collect their Christmas box from the Lord of the Manor - in more recent times people such as news delivery and garbage collectors also got a Christmas tip on Boxing day - there is no celebration as such - its just another public holiday at Christmas time

It's also known as St Stephen's Day.Basically people would give money or goods to the less fortunate. But in modern times the holiday has lost all meaning. In Australia, there are sales on at a lot of stores,a yacht race and a cricket match.

I have a friend in Toronto who told me that it is a big shopping day and a day for going out. Sounds like different people celebrate it differently all around the World. All I know is that it is just another day of work..lol.

For me, a Canadian, it is the day I spend cleaning up the mess left by Christmas.......getting rid of boxes, wrapping paper and such, putting away things used by guests of the day before, and lounging. There is lots of LOUNGING on Boxing day! I spend the entire day in my jammies.....watch some movies with the family, eat leftovers, and reflect on the previous year. Oh, and its the start of the world Junior Hockey Championships today!
WOO HOO CANADA!

boxing day was origionaly the day when the church would open up the money and give it to the poor...
In some houses, you spend it with your 'second family' like the parents of your other half.
Now it's when the Sales start, mum vaccuums up the pine needles and chrismas wrapping, we eat turkey sandwiches and watch christmas specials on TV.
but it's mostly about the Boxing Day Sales.

Traditionally, the Lord of the Shire would celebrate by travelling on horseback to the nearest serf village, accompanied by his bodyguards.
There he would select a number of peasants whose appearance offended him in some way and, while they were held fast by his men, would punch them repeatedly in the stomach until mung came out of their noses.
When he finally tired of this sport, he would ride triumphantly back to his castle and eat venison and swans. The villagers would revive their wounded comrades and drink beer, and talk long into the night of the changes they would make when Labour were elected.
