Has anyone ever heard of the Black boot syndrome? It is all the problems prior/ex- soldiers are now having with their feet/legs/back, etc.. from running in combat boots. I have tried to look it up on line and I can not find any information about it any where. Can some one help with the information?

Of course, it's easier and more comfortable to run in tennis shoes. If you are going into the military, I would suggest that you buy a pair of combat boots now, and break them in. I remember getting blisters on my feet while breaking in my combat boots in basic training. Eventually, you'll get used to running in combat boots, but why suffer when you can do something about it before you go.

They make ALL kinds of combat boots, some more comfortable than others. Yes, it's easier to run in tennis shoes, but some of the boots are pretty comfy to run in too.

The army use to run in combat boots, like they use to be allowed to drink a beer at lunch time and deal with a bad soldier by taking them and hitting them behind the shed, but times have changed. It can eventually wear on your feet. I use to have inserts in my boots because my unit would run us six miles and then we would stand in the motorpool all day long in the hot sun or cold whether, so yeah, its good trainign, until you feel it start to wear on your feet, so I would recommend it until it hurts. Hooah!

Double time is not running. It is a bit less than jogging. requires leg strength.
It is only hard if you are stupid enough to train for combat wearing sneakers and shorts instead of boots, helmet and gear. The boots will support your ankles, the sneakers will not. The weight difference is minimal.

Ya a pair of Nikes is more comfy and the boots are harder to run in, however the boots are still pretty comfy.

Yes. They are much heavier than normal running shoes. Also if you have combat boots on, you probably also have a bunch of other stuff on (ie. MOLLE vest/LBV, Kevlar, etc.

Much harder but you get used to it-ammonia on the blisters helps to toughen them up, watch out for fallen arches on a 30km route march!
