if, as you say your god is so loving and forgiving and will forgive any sin as long as you repent blah di blah, why then does the bible state that if you do not believe in him you will spend eternity in hell being tortured? doesn't that seem a bit extreme and cruel for someone so forgiving and loving?

NL, how did he die for ME? there isn't even any proof that he exhisted at all! let alone walked on water and died for everyone's sins! and if he died for our sins. why then do people need to repent?

Yes, I agree with you. Sounds a wee bit hypocritical.

I think the hell and damnation bit was brought in a bit later in the traditional message in order for the Popes and Priests to have a stick to beat people with. I'm not sure it was from God.
Does the Bible not talk of Death being the wages of sin but that upon Jesus return there will be a 1000yr reign where all will be resurrected and given another chance to come in line with Gods will in His Kingdom and it is only after this that the ones who still refuse will be consigned to... is it Gehenna (not sure of the spelling unfortunately and the Bible is still in storage so I can't look it up!).

Yes, I believe God is loving and forgiving.
But if I drop a hammer on my foot, His love and forgiveness have nothing to do with the incredible sensation I'll shortly be experiencing...especially if He gave me several warnings that I was about to do something really dumb.

Not at all..There is only ONE unforgivable sin, that is the sin of not believing in the Lord. Anything else WILL be forgiven..
Why would you think that it is extreme and cruel? The Lord spells it out plain and simple,(showing the consequences) so even children can understand it.Its similiar to a parent with his/her children, here is what must be done, if you chhose not to do it, then you will be punished, no suprises, everyting out in the open

If you don't belong to him and don't ask for forgiveness, then how can he forgive you? The very least you can do, if you want to be saved, is to accept him as your God. Buddha and Krishna and Mohammad don't save people who don't believe in them, why should God? Most scholars believe that there won't be torture, that Hell is more like Sheol, a separation from God--just as you were in life; separated from God,except now you know that he exists, and missed your chance.

It does not say we'll spend eternity in hell being tortured. It says If we believe in him, we'll have everlasting life. If not, we will die and stay dead. Hell, translated backwards, means death. That's it and that's all. If I were God, I wouldn't want to bring back to life someone who was against me, would you? Where do you see cruelty? If he truly created us, he has every right to decide who he's going to bring back to life and who not.

No proof. Have you been living under a rock?
Rules were made to be followed, not broken.
My guess is you are an extremely young teenager with nothing better to do but irritate people.

He is loving and forgiving, but you have to accept His gift of salvation in order to avoid an eternity in hell. After all, remember His death on the cross - just for you.

Don't anybody going dying for me without asking first. I'm against human or animal sacrifice.
Just because some epileptic nutter went up on a stick, I'm not bound by his goofiness.

i don't understand- if you don't believe, then why waste your time asking? you either have too much time on your hands, you have anger for some unknown reason, or you believe but don't want to.
i don't believe everything most christians believe, but i wouldn't waste my time trying to debate it- what's the use? either you believe or you don't.
