If you slice the carrots into rounds they cook most quickly. I like to actually put them in a pan with a bit of butter and some onion and cook them. I think usually 3 good sized carrots to 1/2 stick of butter, and just a bunch of onion. Then, I just put the cover on and let simmer on low heat, so as not to burn the butter, for about 30 minutes. Crisp tender is what you are going for with carrots, not mushy. If you just boil in water, it will take about the same time for sliced carrots, longer for whole carrots. Carrots take longer to cook than potatoes or chicken tenders. When making a stew, I always add the carrots first. For the potatoes, again, it depends on size. But, baby reds will take about 30 minutes in boiling water. If you want to mash them, then cut them in smaller chunks. They will cook faster and be easier to mash. I mash mine with skins on. Nice to not have to peel potatoes!!! To mash add just a bit of milk, and some butter. We sometimes add garlic and parsley for a nice mashed potato variation. Depending on how you choose to cut or not, the veggies will vary in time as you have already imagined. So, the best thing to do is jump in with both feet and start getting used to how they cook. After a few times you will have a great idea of how long it takes. Unless someone is standing right there seeing the sizes you are using, it is mostly just estimation. My final tip would be to wait until you are sure the veggies are almost done to start the chicken tenders. They will cook quickly, but the veggies will hold heat for a long time if you leave them in their pots (drain off the water though). It is much better to have warm veggies and hot meat, than hot veggies and cold meat. Enjoy your meal.

A professional would probably cook them for about 5 minutes, but personally I like the them more thoroughly cooked. I slice them quite thinly, put them in cold water, bring it to the boil then simmer for about 25-30 minutes, by which time they are soft.

Cook them in the microwave for a couple minutes and give them a poke. If they are not cooked enough, put them back in for another minute. The microwave actually produces a better taste and holds in more nutrients than boiling.

I slice mine up thinly. And put them into cold water. Once the water beins to boil, I cook them for 20 to 25 minutes.
I do that will all my vegtables.

It depends on how big the carrot chunks are. Also it depends on how soft you want them to be. I say, if the carrots are in one inch chunks, then it may take 15 to 20 minutes to get them fork soft.
