I am not sure - they will be watching it on their own I am sure so I am not sure where the "parental guidance" comes in - there seems to be too much violence for my liking.
The only saving grace is that the children seem to be smartly dressed (the ones in the *film* that is).

Yes it is on BBC1 now and I am monitoring it from here - my grandsons said that they were going to watch it when I telephoned.I don't trust the BBC "watershed" system - and I now withdraw the saving grace of the children being smartly dressed as there has been a costume change!

One of the children - the girl - headbutts the other in the face quite violently - with seemingly no effect. That is not mentioned in the review linked above (it is *not* headbutting a "robot" - it is a child headbutting another child).
They wouldn't be watching it if they were here.

You're the parent, so you decide. If they were my kids, I'd not let them see the movie, particularly by themselves. The 3 year-old is especially vulnerable and would not understand. The 8 and 9 year-olds don't need to be exposed to that type of violence. So you could tell them you'd rent it for them when they were 12 and 13, which I believe would be a more appropriate age for this movie. Just because it says "kids" in the title, doesn't mean it's appropriate for little kids. Call me conservative if you want, but they could do something else.
They'd enjoy the new Chipmunks movie. I thought it was great.

I'm 14. When I first saw "Spy Kids", I would have been 8 or 9 years old. I enjoyed the film at that age and there wasn't anything that upset or disturbed me. The movie had an entertaining and exciting story. Yes, it has mild violence too, but violence is on the news, in the home and everywhere (maybe your kids even hit each other when they get mad or play-wrestle).
I would say that the film is appropriate for your kids (if they are yours). The 9-year-old and the 8-year-old will enjoy it, but I don't know many 3-year-olds with long attention spans! The plot will go right over his/her pretty little head.

I think it is ok and i saw it when i was younger. I will let my daughter see it when she gets older. The bedtime thing since school is out for the holiday i don't see anything wrong with letting them stay up as a treat. I was allowed to during holiday. I knew when school started it was back to 8:00 bed time. I can't see why the movie will give a child a nightmare unless they are really the nervous type. my brother saw the movie at like 5 or 6 and laughed the hole time and never thought he would be left alone or that someone would come get him.

yes, it's appropriate. It's a kids movie. The only caveat is that the 3-year-old might be a bit too young. The older kids should be mature enough to understand it.
I'm so tired of people blaming TV and movies for their children's bad behavior. I watched the news every day with my parents, and I haven't hurt a fly. If you watch the news, there are much more gruesome and violent things that are happening in the real world that kids need to become aware of, sooner or later. you can't protect them from everything.

the 3 yr old wont even understand it, so dont worry. thats if he or she will sit through the whole thing!!! i just bought my 7yr old the spykids 2 dvd for christmas. at that age its mostly about the cool watches and dinosaurs. its a fantasy, and they know it. if they dont understand that its just a movie and you cant really fly around on a huge magnet then you have a problem. but i wouldnt worry too much. we havent watched number 2 yet but number 1 didnt have much violence, not compared to some of the things out there today. the simpsons probably have more violence in it. and the things they hear at school is more then likely 10times worse!

Spy kids? I'm sure thats fine. There are many other shows on television that are way more graphic and has way more violence (which Im sure they've already come across). Sometimes, its not good to be overly protective in these situations. While you're debating on this, there are other kids in africa and who aren't sure when their next meal is and have just witness their parents being slaughtered......Your dilemma is microscopic. But I'm sure this is a serious matter to you.

I am trying hard here not to sound rude
But I must ask do you allow them to watch Tom and Jerry, Far worse violence in that than spy kids
Mine loved it and the other one is on today
sometimes this Mary Whitehouse nonsense goes far to far and this is one of those occassions
gotta run snow white is coming on and I must stop my kids seeing old women displayed as hags and the seven dwarfs as vertically challenged old men with an interest in teenage girls

beleive it or not kids do know the difference between films and real life. i have seen the film and so have my brother and sister who were 4 and 6 at the time i think. the 3year old might find bits a bit scary but the rest should be fine. i know you are concerned for the children but try to lighten up a bit.

Spk Kids? Sure it's fine for their ages. I only watched two of the 3 movies, and that was YEARS ago...but I remember them being fine and lots of kids that age in the theater.

Kids are quite clever when it comes to films -they know they are only films and not REAL -they'll be fine-
but my little ones were VERY bothered about Tanya falling down the stairs on EE
