I would like to know if anyone has any links, info etc on the length of time required before "safely" driving a car after consuming alcohol? I'm not a twit - so silly answers saying the likes of "never drink and drive" or "you shouldnt be considering it" get a free trial of my silly-ware for Windows (patent pending).

“If you've been out drinking you may still be affected by alcohol the next day. You might feel OK, but you may still be unfit to drive or over the legal alcohol limit. For example it can take up to 12 hours for the amount of alcohol in your body to return to a safe level after four pints of lager."

the general rule according to the legal system is that 1 unit takes 1 hour to leave the body HOWEVER 2 units takes 2 hours but the more units you drink the more volume is in the body so
3 units 3 hrs
4 units 6 hrs
8 units 12 hours (about 4 pint)

its best to err on the side of caution like me today, i drank a load yesterday feel brilliant but I know i am over the limit

I do think it is dependant on the height & weight of a person, also what strength alcohol u were drinking, and also what time you stopped.

I had 2 glasses of wine with my Christmas dinner at 4pm yesterday afternoon - and my pudding had some level of alcohol in it, however I was in bed by 11pm (bloody knackered!) and I slept through til 8am - I would imagine i would be fine to drive today.X

Our cops are stopping and breath testing in the mornings and getting a high hit rate. Be very careful and allow an hour per half pint from when you stop drinking and assuming you are not rat-arsed.

I read somewhere recently that a unit of alcohol takes an hour to get out of your system. This can only be a very rough guide though as other factors such as height, weight, build, sex, etc etc have to be considered. Be careful :)

a lot of pilots fly by the rule- 24hours bottle to throttle- regardless of how little was actually consumed,- a rule we all can live with., because not only does the alcohol need to be out of your system the rest of you needs to be fresh and clear as well [all ems personnel are encouraged to follow the same]

i was always led to believe that for every unit of alcohol consumed it took an hour for it to clear out of your system e.g. 2 pints = 4 hours. this is not gospel though and will vary from person to person, if you have any doubt don't drive.

after a serious skinful its about 12 14hours....

plod breathalyses drinkers at 7am on their way to work!
and youd be amazed at how many fail the test.

and as its an instant 12month ban... its safer not to drive if youve been drinking.
