Hinduism isn't mentioned ecause it is very old. The quran and chistianity are very recent religions. The population must have been 800 million, or so. Now the population of india is over 1 billion and since islam religion started about 10 years ago, the population wouldn't have changed much

Total population of Hindu /Buddist 1500 years ago would have been in the low millions possibly around 10 million (given how small global population was back then.
Quran does not mention all the religions by name, Quran mentions religions by religious practices -
References to those who do not belive in life after death would apply to darwinists.
References to idol worshipers would have been applied to Hindus. Having said that when Arab Muslims reached Sindh and had the opportunity to engage Hindu pundits, they according Hindu's the same status as people of the book (same as Jews and Christains).
Later Mongol Muslims decided to kill Hindus for being idol worshipers and Indian Muslims for being friends of idol worshipers.
I think it would be a stretch to say India would have been unknown to Muhammed, because references to China are made by the Companions - also the sea trade route from Arabia to India is very short.

Abraham Debates With Idol Worshipers
[6:74] Recall that Abraham said to his father Azar, "How could you worship statues as gods? I see that you and your people have gone far astray."
[6:75] We showed Abraham the marvels of the heavens and the earth, and blessed him with certainty:
[6:76] When the night fell, he saw a shining planet. "Maybe this is my Lord," he said. When it disappeared, he said, "I do not like (gods) that disappear."
[6:77] When he saw the moon rising, he said, "Maybe this is my Lord!" When it disappeared, he said, "Unless my Lord guides me, I will be with the strayers."
[6:78] When he saw the sun rising, he said, "This must be my Lord. This is the biggest." But when it set, he said, "O my people, I denounce your idolatry.
[6:79] "I have devoted myself absolutely to the One who initiated the heavens and the earth; I will never be an idol worshiper."
[6:80] His people argued with him. He said, "Do you argue with me about GOD, after He has guided me? I have no fear of the idols you set up. Nothing can happen to me, unless my Lord wills it. My Lord's knowledge encompasses all things. Would you not take heed?
[6:81] "Why should I fear your idols? It is you who should be afraid, since you worship instead of GOD idols that are utterly powerless to help you. Which side is more deserving of security, if you know?"
