I Think Because There Might Be Risk Of Someone Getting Hurt If The Person Sleep-Walking Is Having A Nightmare Or There Body Might Go Into Shock And Not Regain Consciousness Or They Might Have A Heart Attack From Pressure And Shock

My family woke me up while I was sleep walking. I think its just an old wives tale to not wake sleepwalkers. But it can be really hard to wake them. Its easier just to guide them back to their bed.
One thing to keep in mind that sleep walkers CAN and DO wander outside the house sometimes. My Mom caught me one time as I was walking out the door. Shiver. We lived in a ROUGH projects so it was a good thing she caught me. I'd recommend putting deadbolts or SOMETHING on the doors so the 6 yr old can't get the doors open. My daughter started doing the same thing when she was around 6. I went to the length of nailing the window sashes so she couldn't get out the windows after I found a window ajar after one episode.
Also, some sleeping pills have caused people to sleep walk, do nocturnal eating, and drive ALL WITHOUT THEIR AWARENESS..

The theory is that when you wake a sleep walking person you risk giving them a heart attack. They don't know where they are or what they are doing so to suddenly be woke up, can cause the body to react badly. Maybe not as severe, he might just hit you, run, or cry. He will out grow it. Just help him back to bed and try not to wake him. If he does wake up, it won't kill him....just scare the crap out of him.

Okay so when a person sleep walks and you wake them up its in the mind see so if you wake them up they could go into shock and maybe lose conchesness for acoupla days even weeks months or years you never know but if you let them wake up on there own they will be just fine.

I have no idea, I've never heard that before. I suppose it might be because you could scare him very badly...
I used to sleep walk when I was very young and people woke me up all the time. It never bothered me, but according to my friends and family it was VERY difficult for me to wake up from sleep walking. More difficult than if I was actually in bed. I grew out if it though.
I had a friend who's uncle walked in his sleep and it was so bad that he had to take medication for it. He would reinact his dreams, and sometimes accidently hurt people or himself, so he got medication for it.
My ex boyfriend used to sleep walk when he was young, and he still does occasionally, but people would wake him up all the time and he never reacted badly to it.

In Asian countries it is generally believed that when a person sleep-walk, family members should not wake that person up.
The reason being his soul might get a shock and cannot return to his or her body. Does it make sence to you? Check with mom for her reason and compare notes.

Waking him will frighten him significantly. Imagine for a moment sitting here, reading my answer. Suddenly (with no prior knowledge, a snap, or anything) you're now standing in the kitchen with me looking into your eyes with a confused look on my face. Keep him safe, guide him, but don't wake him.

since they are sleeping the sudden jolt can cause a fight or flight reaction. I would be more concerned about getting hit because it takes a moment for them to realize just where they are.
