What a wonderful site you lifted that from...

It is true Einstein like many people of his day had reservations about the creation of a Jewish state not because he did not believe in it but because he feared the violence it might cause. After Israel was established though he fully supported it realizing it was the only refuge for Jews in the world.

At the same time, Einstein was busy raising funds for organizations such as the United Jewish Appeal, and working toward securing a Jewish homeland in Palestine, which was realized in 1948 by the creation of the State of Israel. When Chaim Weizmann, the first President of Israel and an old friend of Einstein's, died in 1952 Einstein was offered the Presidency. He regretfully declined, writing: "I am deeply moved by the offer from our State of Israel, and at once saddened and ashamed that I cannot accept it."

Someone that refers to Israel as "our" state sounds like a Zionist to me.

Because he was actually an important supporter for it, I've actually never seen that quote before, but as far as i know Einstein was one of the political minds that brought us some of the Ideas involving Israel, not so much Zionism as a whole.

Albert Einstein lived through the Nazi ERA and he could not support the Zionist treatment of the Native people of Palestine. Einstein was by no means a Zionist. He felt sorry for the poor Jews who where forced to move to Palestine by the great powers and he did not think Palestine was the right solution to the Jewish question.

Einstein is an intelligent man, therefore he knows that occupying other people's land is evil and can only bring misery,no matter if you are the occupier or the one that is being occupied.

For those who pulled the thumb down. Don't you agree that Einstein is intelligent and that occupying the land of other people is evil or what?

Mr. Gamla Joe well if Israel is the only refuge for Jews then how come they keep calling Palestinians terrorists?
As you qouted Einstein saying "I am deeply moved by the offer from our State of Israel, and at once saddened and ashamed that I cannot accept it."

If this is what Einstein said then why did he not accept the offer? Saying that he is ashamed and saddened does not mean he supports it, it's only a polite way to reject it.

Mark you are right, Einstein learned from his own experience that is why he could not support Zionism

My first question for you would be to instruct me on a map, from any era of the heritage of the worldwide, the area of the rustic of Palestine. It has in no way existed, nor does it now. The ethnic team observed as "palestinians" could be present in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Oman, and Yemen....yet no usa of "Palestine". So are all of those international places illegally occupying "Palestine" or is it purely the Jews? The land which you declare that the Israelis are encroaching on is land that grew to become into captured from Syria and Egypt after those 2 international places started out an unlawful conflict against Israel and then have been given their butts whipped. This "encroachment" of palestinian land is in the limits of international regulation, and custom wich applies to another usa in the worldwide, so why ought to it no longer prepare to Israel? So, on one hand you have the Israelis who're purely attempting to be left on my own, yet shop getting attacked by employing the Arabs. And on the different hand you have tens of millions of Mexicans who've entered our usa illegally, that deliver us relaxing illnesses like tuberculosis, which grew to become into fantastically much eradicated till they started out to sneak in. Who facilitate drug trafficking and prostitution, and who make up virtually ninety% of the deathrow inmates in California. those 2 could be whilst in comparison with one yet another how precisely? I help Israel and that i oppose unlawful immigration. the way that I reconcile those 2 is that i'm actual knowledgeable on the subject concerns, and heritage, and not an ignorant anti-semite (as you for sure are).

Why do some anti-Semites attribute fake quotes to Einstein or quote him out of context?

This is only the beginning, folks. Wait a couple of decades -- they'll start claiming Einstein was an Arab. And a couple of decades after that they'll claim he was a Muslim.
