Borax - buy over the counter at any chemist. Shampoo hair (leave froth on) tip about a palmful into your hands, add a bit more shampoo to it and rub then apply to hair and massage in as much as possible (it will make the shampoo die literally!). Condition and rinse as usual.

I have two:
Cider vinegar is an old and favorite rinse: 1/2 tablespoon of vinegar to 1 cup of water, just pour it through after washing and rinsing. You don't need to rinse it out, but you can. The vinegar smell will go away after it's dry. This is good to detangle long hair, too.
The second one is beer, just pour it on and lightly rinse out.
