Broadknives are those big, butcher knives. Anyway, they always have a hole in the metal, what's it for?

I think it's purpose is so you can hang it off a nail or hook. A lot of butchers use that knife and they need to keep all their knives handy while they work.

Good question. I never really thought about it, but my grandfather was a chef and I have most of his knives with his initials carved into the handles...to prove ownership.
