Deacon, those words were uttered to his followers not just " anyone". Today some have not walked the " path" so to speak and feel they " Invited" when thats just not so.

Ask anyone of these folk who think this applies to them what are they going to DO in Heaven and they have NO clue.Yet the scriptures tell us what they do do. They Kings & Priests. So who sees themselves as Kings & Priests here?

Not everyone has a heavenly future.
Only those special ones, chosen by Jesus both when he was alive and even after...have this future.
It includes the 120 that were in the upper room and had the Holy Spirit appear as flames from their heads.
It does not include anyone who had died before Jesus commenced his preaching, like Abraham or Moses.
(REVELATION 20:4) And I saw thrones, and there were those who sat down on them, and power of judging was given them. Yes, I saw the souls of those executed with the ax for the witness they bore to Jesus and for speaking about God, and those who had worshiped neither the wild beast nor its image and who had not received the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand. And they came to life and ruled as kings with the Christ for a thousand years.
these are the 144,000 of Revelation 7;4 and 14;1
They are not all Jews, as God regards the whole world now as the tribes of Israel.
This is shown by a cross reference at :
(REVELATION 7:9) After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands.
If those who are obedient to God are taken from the whole world, so are the anointed.
...ALL nations...

These are for all believers, seeing as there are no chapters,
verses & passage names in the original. These are only there for easier reading & to give some guide lines to the
content & subject. The breaks in passages are not always
correct ( man made of course.)John 17:20 " I do not pray for
these alone, but also for those who will believe in me thru
their word."
It is unrealistic to think that the disciples would hve not have
told all new disciples the same encouraging words.
vs 24 of 17 says Father I desire that they also may be with me where I am.
The problem is we are all going to live on the earth not in
heaven. Earth was made for man & finally the New Jerusalem
is on the New earth & the Tabernacle of YHWH God is with
men. Streets of gold on earth, river of life &12 fruit trees all
on earth. Read Rev 21-22 in context.

The Holy Spirit provides both conviction of sin and assurance of salvation. Spiritual assurance (sometimes referred to as the "Peace of God"), which is what you are really referring to, comes as a result of faith and repentance (and in some cases is facilitated by "works"). This is a gift from God and as with most Divine gifts can't be really understood until experienced.

They do not realise that Jesus was speaking privately to his disciples and not to a crowd like at the Sermon on the Mount.
They have been told by their religious leaders that they only have two options- heaven or a fiery hell, so of course they all "choose" to go to heaven.

what she said....and besides, the disciples were human like us.
let's assume that what the bible says is real here. it'd would be kind of pointless for jesus to go through all the trouble he did if he was merely trying to get twelve men to heaven, don't you think? looking at it objectively, rather than subjectively, i mean. so it's safe to assume, i suppose, that he's talking about all mankind.
