Since no one can agree about whether it is right or wrong I think it is better to be pro-choice. Let people decide based on their own views and not force your views down their throat. I think that even as a pro-choice you can be against having an abortion. It doesn't mean that you personally have to have one.

The obvious answer is that, where abortion is legal, it cannot be considered a murder or any other crime. This is a fact.

Those who are spiritually inclined will tell you that all human life is sacred, and that life begins at conception. A person who embraces these concepts will automatically reject any justification for terminating a pregnancy, even if it's legal. It's futile to debate someone who believes this.

Not all pregnancies end because of abortion. Miscarriages, which are called "spontaneous abortions," happen all the time, as do stillbirths. So in a way you might say that God murders babies. However, these natural events usually happen when the fetus is damaged other not viable for some other reason.

In the case of abortion, there is no way of knowing whether or not the fetus would have been viable had the mother chosen to carry it to term. Therefore I think it's fair to say that any abortion which occurs before the fetus is capable of living outside the womb terminates a potential life. In my view, terminating a potential life is not morally the same as picking up a gun and shooting someone who's already left the womb.

But the bottom line is, in our society taking a life can be perfectly legal, whether it is through abortion, assisted suicide or capital punishment. If they are done legally, these acts cannot be called "murder," though in many people's eyes, they always will be immoral and wrong.

I agree with a previous poster who said that "pro choice" doesn't necessarily mean "pro abortion," and that people ought to act according to whatever they believe. As the bumper sticker says, if you don't believe in abortion, then don't have one.

On a personal note, I had an abortion many years ago when I was single. I cried all through the procedure. At the time abortion seemed to me like the only sensible choice, but now that I've done it I would never go through that again. No matter what side of the fence you are on, and I'm firmly pro-choice, abortion can be an emotionally wrenching experience not to be undertaken lightly.

Because you are ending life when you abort a baby. When a woman is pregnant, they are carrying life in their belly and it is precious and should be cherished. A little human never asks to be brought into this world nor does she ask to be viciously murdered before she has a real chance at life. How can you condone abortions when it is taking life and throwing it away. Abortions are just cruel and i am suprised they are even legal. I can understand if a woman is raped and falls pregnant and wants an abortion - why should she have to have a constant reminder of what she went thru? But for other woman who are just careless and stupid who fall pregnant when they dont want a child or cant care for one and think of the easy way out- abortion...then thats just plain wrong and shouldnt be allowed!! It is murder and one day it will be made illegal. And by the way, i dont think this is the best section to be posting this question because there are many pregnant women with hormones running crazy and feel very emotional about this subject.

From a strictly biological standpoint, abortion is murder. I'm an Atheist, but I hate abortion. It's irresponsible and reckless.

Sperm and eggs are called gametes, and they each contain one set of chromosomes -- meaning that they are haploid cells. When they fuse, the zygote is diploid -- meaning that it has chromosomes from both parents. The zygote grows into a fetus and develops a heartbeat. There is also proof of brain activity. The zygote/fetus is therefore as alive as you or I.

Logically speaking, a person is considered dead if their heart is no longer beating, so wouldn't a fetus be considered alive if its heart starts to beat?

The bottom line is that when you get an abortion, you're preventing a life from growing to its full potential. You, Me, and any one else who may read this can't fully comprehend this, becuase we all survived and were able to live.

because you are ending what could have been an amazing life. there are plenty of people in the world who would give anything to have a baby, and the ones who are dumb enough to choose to sleep around when they know they could get pregnant think they should have the choice to take away that life when they could have prevented it by using bc or not having sex at all. they also have the choice to give the baby up. why do we live in a world where it's wrong to cut down a forest and wrong to yell or swear at an animal, but ending the life of a human fetus is perfectly acceptable? dont get me wrong, in some cases abortion may really be the only way to go, but it shouldn't be used to cover up your mistakes.

skypierc is on the right track. From a *purely* scientific viewpoint, a fetus is an organism with unique DNA, different from *every* other person in the world. In other words, from a scientific point of view, a fetus is an individual human. If you do a DNA test on fetal tissue, it will prove that the tissue belongs to a human being. It will also prove that the DNA does not belong to any *other* human being (identical twins excepted).

Thus, the destruction of a fetus is the destruction of a unique human being.

I read a report on an abortion on the net:

The fetus when taken out, is alive,
its heart beating,
its arm reached for the doctor,
as if begging for life,
they put the suction instrument at the base of brain,
from behind , and suck the contents of brain out,
immediately the baby becomes still.
You may call it dead.

Trees, cows and birds are not human.

When you abort a fetus, you are killing a human life. That is why abortion is murder.

The unborn baby is a person with its own DNA.

It's not like a piercing or removing and appendix... it isn't just part of the mother's body... it's a completely different person.

There is a whole and complete spiritual person onboard at the moment of conception that is waiting as its physical body is being completed.

It's alive, not dead!

(PSALM 139:14-16) I shall laud you because in a fear-inspiring way I am wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, As my soul is very well aware. 15 My bones were not hidden from you When I was made in secret, When I was woven in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw even the embryo of me, And in your book all its parts were down in writing, As regards the days when they were formed And there was not yet one among them.

The early Bible writers knew exactly what an embryo was.
right from the moment of conception.
This scripture goes way beyond simplistic faith, bowing and praying.
It shows accurate medical knowledge.

"In your book all its parts were down in writing"...
Not
too bad a description of DNA.

Hey!

Don't call the Bible just a book. That's rude, antagonistic, and just plain asking for trouble. Ask your question NICELY and you'll get more answers.

As for abortion being murder...how is it not??? That's where we come from. Sure, it's just a bunch of cells. But...aren't we all? Blood cells, brain cells, skin cells, etc. What makes you more of a life form than that baby?

Consciousness? Humans don't fully develop consciousness until they're around five, six, or even seven years old. So, does that mean it's okay to go around shooting babies, toddlers, and children?

The extinguishing of a life on purpose, whether it be in the beginning stages or in the later ones, is murder. And, once sperm meets egg, life is beginning. So, destroying that life is murder.

Personally, I've always thought of abortion as the highest level of selfishness. It's saying my life, my feelings, and my convenience is more important that someone else's. If you gave any of the reasons given for abortion, in a courtroom over someone legally termed 'living', you'd be put in jail as quick as you could blink.

Also, you can't say that they aren't alive until they've taken their first breath. They are breathing through their mother, which is the whole reason for the umbilical cord.

So, abortion is murder because it is the destruction of the most precious thing in the universe: life. End of story.

Luv ya,
Tashi :)

P.S. As to their being punished for their parents' sins and that they will suffer think of this first: YOU don't know if that is going to happen. They might survive the abuse. And, even if they don't, does preventing suffering justify removing all chances that baby has? That baby will never get to see colors like you and I. That baby will never get to taste different things, like chocolate and cinnamon. That baby will never get to feel different textures on their skin. That baby will never get to swim for the first time, feeling water all around it, holding it up. That baby will never form its first words, and delight in the new experience of communication. That baby will never get to see an animal, and touch their fur. That baby will never smell things like baking cookies or flowers or perfume. That baby will never see things as incredible as a garden or a tree, or even things as simple as another person's face. That baby will never get to delight in its first steps, and feel the unbelievable freedom in being able to move on its own. That baby won't even get to feel that first wonderful intake of breath, letting the life-giving oxygen fill its little lungs for the very first time.

So they might suffer! If you asked anyone on this planet if they could choose between feeling all that, or never suffering, I can guarantee that they will choose to EXPERIENCE the wonders of life. And who are you to decide that that child shouldn't have the chance to do the same exact things that you and I take for granted every day?

As to the woman who said it does not mention killing a baby in the womb in the Bible as wrong, explain to me what Exodus 21:22-25 is saying: "“And in case men should struggle with each other and they really hurt a pregnant woman and her children do come out but no fatal accident occurs, he is to have damages imposed upon him without fail according to what the owner of the woman may lay upon him; and he must give it through the justices. But if a fatal accident should occur, then you must give soul for soul, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, branding for branding, wound for wound, blow for blow."

In other words, if you ACCIDENTALLY killed a baby while in the mother's womb, you were to be put to death yourself. So, don't tell me the Bible doesn't say abortion is murder.

P.P.S. And you can't be mad at me for the Bible quote. I was just refuting a lie.
