Stop Everything!!!

Before you try this, make sure you have a copy of Vista on DVD for your Make & Model of LapTop. If you already formatted the hard drive, it may be too late. Read the laPtop User Manual "recovery" section for more info.

Then, check with the Manufacturer for XP Recovery disks for your Model # and get them first. DO NOT use a "store-bought" XP disk or one for another brand of PC. You will go nuts trying to find all the necessary drivers.

Word of caution: see if the computer manufacturer has the Windows XP drivers and down load them and save them on cd before you change to Windows XP. I have already redone four customers computers back to Windows XP.

I learned the hard way the first time I did it. This will save you a lot of headaches. You should be able to accomplish the Windows install by booting directly with the Windows XP disk, choose to erase or remove the current partitions, the choose to format the drive NTSF. As stated by another, set your bios to boot from CD as your first option.

To install any operating system you have to BOOT from the CD.

Make sure the BIOS on your laptop is set to boot from the CD/DVD first.

Why do you want to replace Vista? Unless the laptop's hardware does not meet the mininum requirements.
