They're the different versions of the real steel gun which have been built over the years.
The difference between the various airsoft versions of the M16 is entirely cosmetic. Things like foregrips and carry handles vary along the range. They should all perform the same as thet gearbox is the same and they all have the same length of barrel.

the differrence between those models is the price. A4 is the most expensive coz its the latest model and A1 is the oldest an cheaper. but the motor, gear, and baterries are all thesame. wit approx. 350 FPS.

It's all the accessories and styles. They're pretty much all the same internally.
