you can feed it smaller portions more often and first make the dog listen to a small command like sit or lay down

How old is the puppy? If 6-8 weeks I would feed 3-4 times a day.
If 8-12 I would feed 3 times a day.
Any older than that I would move to 2, but you can stay at 3 times.

If the puppy is hungry earlier then feed it earlier. Some small breed and very young puppies 8-12 weeks, should be eating 3 times a day.

how old is the puppy? Puppies are fed 2-3 times a day.. depending on how old/active the pup is.
You can change the puppy's feeding schedule to something thats more convenient to you. I personally prefer to feed a puppy in the morning shortly after getting up, and again late afternoon/early evening.
You cant always go by how "hungry" she seems.. because dogs are never full!
OK small breed at 8 weeks.. I would spread the meals out to 3 times a day. You can feed it on a schedule that works for you. I would stick to the schedule while housebreaking tho.. it makes it easier to time out when she should poop!

So, just feed it less at a time, more often. Researchers believe that young pups should be fed four times a day anyway and can be weaned back to once or twice a day by the time they are eight months old. Since young pups use the facilities more often, doing this will make managing pottie breaks much easier too as they tend to go after eating and exercising.

Actually...to me the two time a day thing has always seemed cruel. I feed my dog the right amount of food three times a day. when I get up at 6:30 am, when I get home at around 3-4 pm, and just before I go to bed around 10. I feel that we eat three times aday so why shouldn't they. for instance...mine should be fed three cups a day. I feed one cup each sitting. look at the bag of food and it will say recommended feeding amount. if it is 3/4 cup a day...quarter cup at a time. good luck and don't feed it cheap brands...they were on the recall list. the best brand I found is royal canin. great food.

Most dogs do just fine with twice a day, though they would sure appreciate three times! :) Just make sure as the puppy gets older that you only feed the appropriate amount per day. If the breeder said to feed 1/2 cup twice a day and you want to do it three times a day, you'd have to feed 1/3 cup. Otherwise, you can easily end up with an overweight dog.
Good luck with your new dog!

I feed 12 hours apart, so 10 and 10 would probably be better. Feeding too far apart sometimes causes stomach upset and my dogs will vomit stomach bile if they haven't eaten for more than 12 hours. Happens with a lot of dogs. Feed her 2 hours earlier and she should be fine.

I always feed my puppies 3 xs a day until they are 6 months old. Check the food bag for amounts, etc. By the way, you can arrange your own feeding schedule, the breeder was just giving you a guideline. Enjoy your pup.

If the puppy is only 8 weeks to 12 weeks it should be on 3 meals a day. Calcium supplement should also be added to its food at this time. 12noon and 10pm seem strange to me. If you are still not sure speak to a vet or a registered breeder

Puppies do need to eat 2 times a day until they are about 6 months old, but it is better to take her outside as soon as you get up, then feed her. After she has eaten, she will be ready to poop in a few minutes. Take her outside again. Then feed her a little bit around 4 or 5 o'clock. Then she will want to poop again. If you wait to feed her at 10 p.m. you will not get her crate trained or housebroken. She will poop late at night.
