As what Pepseequ said but thats the original version, it dosent really happen like that any more. Boxing day is celebrated by most countrys in the british commonwealth its the start of the sales ( in the uk anyway) and is a day off for most people unless you work in a shop. To most people its like an extension of christmas day but without the presents.

I think on 26 December most of the retail stores box their collections for sale or box up whatever left after the sale at the end of the day. From this tradition of box-up or pack-up, the name, 'Boxing day' has come.

I think after spending a lot for the 25th for merry making, people are confronted with many payables starting the 26th onwards so its is called the boxing day (a day of quarrel). ...LOL
