I have a schnoodle and his coat tends to be more poodle like. I brush him with a normal dog brush, the one with the metal prongs and the soft black bristles on the other side. He tends to get matted fur fairly easy I use a detangler to help out. Am I using the right type of brush for my dog?

A dog of your type should be brushed out with a slicker brush. Be sure your brushing the hair down to the skin rather than just the top of the hair.

In my experience, the best brushes for Poodles are a combination of a slicker brush, a rake, and a mat-breaker. The one you are currently using would never work on my poodle...I use that one on my Goldens, but it won't do the job for a Poodle.

I have a poodle with this problem, the groomer instructed me to use a comb with thick prongs that are not to far apart or very close together.

A dog with long hair should be brushed with a wire pin brush. If it mattes easily you probably should have it groomed.
