Celestial kingdom—Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ reside in the celestial kingdom. If you live according to the gospel of Jesus Christ and are cleansed from sin by the Atonement, you will receive a place in this, the highest kingdom, where you will live in God’s presence and know complete joy.
Terrestrial kingdom—People who refuse to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ but who live honorable lives will receive a place in the terrestrial kingdom.
Telestial kingdom—Those who continue in their sins and do not repent until after they have died, will eventually receive a place in the telestial kingdom.

As things are shown here, it seems quite clear that there is no concept of heaven and hell. But I can still figure out that the Celestial Kingdom is equivalent to heaven while the Telestial Kingdom is hell. However, what about the Terrestrial Kindom?

There is outer darkness for the few that merit an eternal punishment. That is for those who knew the full truth of the Gospel, but rejected and blasphemed the Holy Ghost. Otherwise the lowest kingdom of heaven has a degree of glory and a reward far beyond the life we live on earth.

For those who haven't read about this in the Bible:

1 Corinthians 15:40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

Those who inherit terrestrial glory will "receive of the presence of the Son, but not of the fulness of the Father. Wherefore, they are bodies terrestrial, and not bodies celestial, and differ in glory as the moon differs from the sun" (D&C 76:77–78). Generally speaking, individuals in the terrestrial kingdom will be honorable people "who were blinded by the craftiness of men" (D&C 76:75). This group will include members of the Church who were "not valiant in the testimony of Jesus" (D&C 76:79). It will also include those who rejected the opportunity to receive the gospel in mortality but who later received it in the postmortal spirit world (see D&C 76:73–74). To learn more about those who will inherit terrestrial glory, see Doctrine and Covenants D&C 76:71–80, 91, 97.

I am pretty sure there are four kingdoms.

The terrestrial kingdom is more of a middle ground and the telestial kingdom would be more like purgatory than an everlasting hell. The fourth place (The Outer Darkness) is more comparable to true hell, a place infinitely remote from GOD's glory and resting place for the Children of Perdition - those who cannot be saved.

If you want to understad the LDS concept of three heavens, all you have to do is go to LDS.org and study up on that very subject. Since there is no such place as hell, then the word hell requires an understanding of the word. Hell is a "type" of suffering that those who are consigned to it cannot escape from. The telestial degree of glory is the highest degree of heaven, while the telestial degree of glory is the lowest degree of glory. When one suffers the "hell" spoken of in the scriptures, there is no glory connected to such a one, therfore, the telestial heaven being a heaven of glory, could not possibly be a hell. But the terrestial degreee of glory, as well as sthe telestial degree of glory is damnation. Damnation is not hell either, but simply the prevention of that person who is damned to not progress from a lower kingdom to a higher kingdom. And there is definently a hell to be suffered by all those who reject Jesus Christ, however not many will actually do that in the final analysis. Most who suffer Hell will be delivered from that fate with the final judgment, and then be placed in a kingdom of glory as their place of abode for eternity.

I think I answered this same question under a different topic, so this answer will be shorter.

In a nutshell, there are various definitions for "heaven" and "hell". In scriptures, it's not always easy to know which one they were refering too.

Heaven.
any one of the 3 kindoms of Glory
Spirit Paradise
Celestial Kingdom

Hell
Spirit prison
telestial kingdom
outer darkness
anything short of exaltation

hope that helps. Seems confusing, I know.

my question, if God lives on Kolob, he is not in the Celestial kingdom, right, why? Were then is it, and why isn't God there?
And if it is the Celestial kingdom then why arn't his rgandpa and father mentioned or why arn't they mentioned as being there as well? Or the great, great grandpa? so why then are the other galaxies empty, what a waste of space. why then didn't the mormons just come up with the concept that the celestial kingdom was all over the galaxy, it would make more sense, no waste of space.

this question sounds time-honored. this is a concept from the e book of Mormon in Moroni 7:forty seven (in the direction of the tip of the e book.) "yet charity is the organic blove of Christ, and it endureth perpetually; and whoso is discovered possessed of it on the final day, it is going to be nicely with him." (Or HER.) i could call mom Teresa the epitome of an entire life of charity, and as a dependable daughter of God she could unquestionably have the possibility to settle for all of God's advantages. We do have self assurance that Jesus Christ has the authority to assert who could enter in the celestial kingdom. If there is such authority on earth, and we've self assurance there is, then somebody could would desire to be baptized by employing that authority for it to be a valid baptism after the way Jesus has detailed. all human beings who has ever lived could have that probability in some unspecified time sooner or later in time. I for one think of mom Teresa did a appropriate activity together with her comprehensive mortal existence. i could no longer even start to stay as much as what she did. Have a satisfied day, and that i deliver you a gummy undergo.

If you are asking for the sake of knowledge there are many web sites that have this information, but if you are studying Mormon teaching as if it is from God you should first determine if it is true. The Mormons teach the Bible is the Word of God and that the book of Mormon is just a continuation of the teaching of the Bible. There are many blatant contradictions, however, between these two revelations. It is impossible for them both to be correct. I would be happy to post a list of these contradictions and other problems with Mr. Smith's tall tell if the truth is what you are seeking.
