I am Catholic. I am living in a flat full of Born again Christians. The pastor was staying there at one time and we had a one on one talk. And at the end of our talk she made me repeat a prayer with her with regards as choosing Jesus as my savior etc. Am I still Catholic???

Yeah, if you were baptized in the Catholic Church, you're still Catholic.

Your "preacher" friend should be so lucky!

I hope you learned something about these folks.

They don't even know what they don't even know.

Stick with the Catholic church ... the only church that Jesus Christ ever personally founded, authorized, empowered, and eternally guaranteed ... for the purpose of our salvation ... the only church that still operates exactly as it was constituted in the begining by Christ ... and that still follows his "great commission" ... to the letter:

Mat 28:18 And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.

Mat 28:19 Going therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.

Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe ALL things whatsoever I have commanded you.

And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

And next time ... tell her that as a Catholic, you personally receive Jesus Christ ... body, blood, soul, and divinity ... in the flesh ... alive and glorious ... every time you receive Holy Communion ... and that EVERY time you receive ANY Catholic sacrament you experience a grace-filled personal encounter with the risen Jesus ... courtesy of the Holy Spirit ... according to the divine will of God the Father ... and that beats her wimpy little "sinners prayer" EVERY single time.

Then, ask her why she doesn't have the FAITH to become a Catholic.

Credentials: former Roman Catholic (RC), still Christian

I had a similar event occur when I was young (10, or even younger), and I was raised RC. What struck me at that very young age was how odd it was for the minister to ask me the question "do you accept Jesus as your personal savior?" My immediate (but unvoiced) thought was, "Is there someone else?" I, too, said the prayer, and wondered for a long time afterwards what the point of it was. (I *still* wonder why many sects push Jesus as a *personal* savior. Personally, I thought he was there for everyone.)

Nearly all doctrines taught by nearly all sects of Christianity are identical. The Roman Catholics have many *additional* doctrines not taught by other sects, but generally your *status* as a Roman Catholic cannot be affected by another Christian sect unless you refute any of Roman Catholic canon law (Canon law is the things you must believe to be a RC).

You are even permitted to attend Christian services of other sects. There are also "charismatic" RC services, during which faith healing and speaking in tongues are practiced. In other words, the RC church embraces (permits) most Christian practices. The previous pope even wrote about becoming "born again", a phrase most often used by Protestant sects.

Essentially, if you believe in the specifics of canon law, and follow the requirements of the RC faith (holy days of obligation, annual confession, etc.), then you have every right to claim, with integrity, that you are a RC.

If you join another sect, your status as a RC might be questioned, but I would say that following the dictates in the preceding paragraph maintain your status. If you are baptized by another sect, and accept the doctrine that the RC baptism is not efficacious, then I would say you are not really a RC any longer.

you shouldnt repeat something just because someone wants you too. I know people can be really pushy and intimidating sometimes... but this is YOUR faith and YOUR beliefs... if something like this should happen again just say you're uncomfortable doing any such thing until you've thought it over more.

And you are whatever you want to be... catholic... baptist... non denominational...

but the important thing is we all serve the same God... just a few differences in opinion here and there between the denominations.

And just as a little side note:
ICToA,
Just because you're of a certain denomination, it doesnt mean that you have a closer relationship with Christ than others. Only God can judge that. The main thing of importance is we all share faith in the same God.....

Lone,

If she "made you repeat a prayer" you are just who you were before you prayed. A person isn't born again, just because they say certain words.

When I came to the realization that there was a God, that His Son Jesus was God, and that my life was in ruins and I couldn't fix it, I turned my life over to God to run it for me and asked Him to forgive my sins/mistakes. At that point in time, God adopted me into His Spiritual Family. I was born again, meaning the first time was physical birth and the second time was a spiritual birth. It was my choice to respond to God. No ritual will ever make you born again. It has to be a personal encounter with God.

I would encourage you to learn more about what your Catholic church believes and what the Bible teaches, then pray and talk to God about all this and let Him help you from this point onward.

Be patient with your flat-mates. Some people who are very excited about their relationship with Jesus can be sort of pushy and they forget to let people discover things for themselves. They mean well. I used to be this way because I was so excited about what Jesus had done in my life and I just wanted everybody else to have this wonderful love too. I had to learn to let people come to their own conclusions/in their own time! My only hope is that at the end of all your questions you will have a deeper relationship with God and a stronger faith in Him. God Bless you!

Catholics started the Christian religion, they are now and always have been Christians, they were the head of the Christian church until they all decided to do there own thing.
Just as an example a certain King in England wanted a divorce, Catholics dont go along with divorce, so the King of England started his own church, still going strong today!
So the pope was no longer head of the church, the crown was head of English church, and he allowed divorce.
You are Catholic, if you are worried see a priest from your local Catholic church.

Well, You need to understand what being "Born Again" is all about as Jesus said in the Bible. It goes like this:
You admit that you are a sinner.
You come to Christ and ask forgiveness for your sins. He then will forgive you of your sins.
Then you try to change your sinless life, but none of us can really live a sinless life, and that is where being under the "Blood of Christ" comes in. And the blood of Christ then covers your sins past, present and future sins. And Jesus's blood will cover your sins now and for the rest of your life.. You being Catholic and continuing to serving Mary, an Idol, will never-allow you to be born again into Christ's death or into His world to come, the resurrection. That is what the first of the Ten Commandments makes quite plain, but your religion,Cat holism, has Corrupted God's Holy Word.

None of those Protestants believe in the whole Gospel of Jesus because they lack Jesus in the Holy Eucharist not believing his truth about that. They also have a false notion of being saved. Our Church teaches that no one is literally truly saved until they are in heaven. Then it is past tense as they say.
You were born again when you were baptized. All are.You have received Jesus into your heart and whole being long before any of them did, in baptism and in Holy Communion each time. The so called reformers' founders and followers lost the power handed on in the Catholic Church from the Apostles to transubstantiate bread and wine into Jesus himself. The Blessed Virgin Mary has revealed the Protestant Reformation was caused by the Spirit of the AntiChrist. God has shown me proof in the Quran that also is its work of deception about Christ. So is the Book of Mormon. In SLCity Jesus told me Moroni the angelic deliverer of it to Joe Smith is the name of a demon.
I have been receiving Jesus in daily communion for 40 years. They have received him so not once.

and i'm curious as to what you mean by the question

is it cause you repeated a prayer with a pastor and not a priest

if that is your question then yes you are still catholic

it doesn't matter who you say prayers with but what you believe that makes you catholic

It's just that I don't remember Jesus saying anything about having to become a Catholic. He did say something about trusting God and believing in Him. He did say that if you believe in Jesus Christ, you will not be condemned, but he left anything about Catholicism out . . . . for some reason.

Yes, you are still Catholic unless you choose to leave the church and join a protestant church or you are excommunicated from the church. The Catholic Church does recognize Jesus as their personal Savior my dear.
