Assuming you are talking about the Christian God, then I feel that I have the nearly the same chance as a Christian. Looking at the statistics Christians only have a slight advantage over atheists in the just-in-case area, and that's only because they actually went out and bought a lottery ticket. Atheists just say screw it- I have a better chance of being hit by lightning.
I think Christians should be just as concerned for their eternal soul as they claim atheists should be. But, honestly as an atheist I don't worry about it much because I see the chance of any religion being right as too remote to worry about.
Oh and I forgot to add the anti-pascal's wager. It's where the entire concept of religion is actually a giant test to see who is going to be a sheep and fall for it, and worship a seemingly evil and nonsensical god. Those who oppose (atheists) are actually the ones who are passing the test and therefore will end up in heaven. So really I might be better off not believing anyway.

I'm a christian... but I don't think one should be a christian just to secure their spot in heaven. It should be out of love for God and having a personal relationship with him. A choice to do so can't be based upon "better safe than sorry." It simply is or isnt.

Pascals Wager is getting old. If the only reason you believe is that you're afraid you could be wrong, any god would know and punish you for it because you're only going through the motions and don't really believe with your heart. ESPECIALLY THE CHRISTIAN GOD.
Here's a shocker for you... you Christians don't know that your god even exists. For all you know, it could be the Goddess Isis or the Goddess Athena, it could be Quetzacoatle, or Odin. It could be any other god in the world, or even one we haven't thought up yet. And if you're worshipping the WRONG god, then the REAL god is going to be mighty pissed and torture you for all eternity.
Sounds to me like the Atheists are in a better place than you are. At least we had the guts to be honest with ourselves. Our integrity would look much better to any god that MIGHT exist, than you lying to yourself just because you're scared.

No. I don't have to believe in God to be a good person. And if being good isn't good enough for God because I didn't "believe" He existed, then God's heaven isn't divine, all encompassing and infinite enough to be considered as a spiritual place that is higher than the confines of Earth's ignorant societies that are bigoted and ruthless in their beliefs and ideologies.

No. The "soul" is actually "life," it's a mistranslation in the bible. The English word soul is used to translate two original words of the Old Testament and New Testament. The Hebrew word pronounced nay-fesh, which literally means a breathing creature, is variously translated as soul, life, person, mind, heart, creature, body, himself, yourselves, dead, will, desire, man, themselves and appetite. The Greek word pronounced psoo-kay, which literally means life's breath or breathing, is variously translated as soul, life, mind and heart. According to the scriptures, a soul is a living, breathing creature that eventually dies. Nowhere in the Bible can be found an "immortal soul."

That sounds like deception and don't you think your all powerful and all knowing god will find that out.
It is also intellectual cowardice.
If your reason tells you that believing in gods is nonsense then where is the integrity and self respect in pretending to believe otherwise.
By the way it never ceases to amaze me how many of you people cannot spell ATHEIST.

Keep in mind that many atheists have excellent reasons to question the existance of God.
let me add this point: if God wanted to show atheists that there is a higher power, what stops Him from sending a clear-cut message to that effect?

I give an answer in love. Didn't Jesus say to try to save your life was to lose it, but to lose your life was to save it. In other words, why are you wasting your life being so careful? Life should be lived to the fullest. The old saying, over caution spilleth the millk goes a long ways here.

No, I don't think this is dangerous.
Aren't you worried that your regular refusal to sacrifice a bull to Zeus will lead to your being violated by a lightning bolt for all eternity once you cross the Stygian river?
