I'm thinking of adding Ad Sense to my website (when its up and running). My question is, how much do i have to earn before i have to report my earnings to the IRS? My father in law tells me it's over $5,000, then my dad tells me its over $7,000. I'm confused. Can someone help?
Thanks...

This is self employment income. You must file return if your net income (income minus expenses) is $400 or more.

You will report your self employment income and expenses on schedule C (Form 1040).
On the net income you will pay SE tax at 15.3%. For this you must file schedule SE (Form 1040).

For those who don't have self employment income:
If you are Single and Dependent, you must file if your income is $5,350 or more. If you are single nondependent, you must file if your income is $8,750 or more.

the flexibility to deduct baby care relies upon on the quantity of internet income you have out of your activities. you could no longer merely declare the earnings without keeping the expenses too. to be sure if this is a enterprise or a interest, use the checklist in e book 535 to determine. in case you're figuring out to purchase products somewhat for resale and practice a income, flow to time table C-Ez. in case you're advertising very own products (aka storage sale), any benefit is going as a replace on time table D.

For self-employment, which would include Ad Sense, you have to file if you make $400 or more.

Other than self-employment, you have to file if you make $8750 or more if you are not a dependent, or $5350 or more if you are a dependent.

$400.00

The income would be considered self-employment income so the minimum filing requirement is only $400.00.

If it is in addition to other income (aka a job), technically you would have to report it if you had any income (even $1).
