I want to do some science experiments, but I can't do it without some types of metal.

I want to know what the general cost of scrap copper, aluminum, and steel are per ounce. It would also help if you give me some safety tips when I handle the metal. Do I need a special type of soap to wash my hands after touching it? Should I wear rubber gloves and a mask?

Thank you for your time. Best answer will get ten points! Oh, and happy upcoming New Year everyone.

In general, you do not need skin protection to handle iron, copper or aluminum alloys.

Steel can be obtained from empty food cans.  Aluminum is the chief component of beer and soft-drink cans.  Copper is the major component of wiring (lamp cord, speaker wire).  Depending how much you need, you can obtain ounces to pounds from these sources.

Depends on the source of the scrap metal. If you get from a factory, it may or may not need cleaning. If you need to clean it, you will need appropriate protectives like gloves, mask etc.

Have you looked in your own house first? Most of the cold drink cans are made from aluminum (may be some plastic coating will need to be removed).

Scrap metal yards are better, you get a better price, copper and aluminum are over $2.00 lb,steel 30 cents,if you sort it you get a better price,It would be best to check out some scrap dealers and talk with them, and find out about it.

Hi, it is best you go to your local recycling center to get the price as it varies from place to place. As you are handling scrap metal, it could be contaminated with other chemicals during the recovery process. I do know some people are allergic to copper so best advice is to be careful. Gloves, mask and goggles are mandatory as the stuff you are dealing with could have been contaminated.
