Religions are obviously men made up inventions long ago but there are humans that are weak in mind and spirit that they need God to lift them up in order to survive this cruel world.
My guess the human minds are not perfect. If you are certain God exists then think about this deeply and see if you can see religions are men made inventions. Example, believers keep telling you you will enter a perfect sinless heaven after you died if you believe in certain God or Gods depending where you live right now.
Take Christianity, Islam. These religions claimed 2/3 of all angels including Satan rebel against God in a perfect heaven
Do you not accept that these angels must have been debating for a while before to decide to rebel. This also means they were discussing disobeying God for a long time before this God found out.
Is a God able to see the future or did angels knew God can see the future or hear what they were discussing during their debate on this rebellion?
You see this is just one example of what religion is all about. Men made up silly ideas or stories but modern day humans still continue to accept them as for real.
I guess if humans want it that way then they do have their rights to believe in these superstitious ideas. The only problem is they will destroy this world for fighting for their God all over the world. In the USA, policticians are always using the word God everyhwhere they go and making speeches to the public.
If you really need a religion then I give you two. One is meditation. That will surely help your mind. The second is Buddhism without a God involved. These two are good for your mind and keep you happy being a human being if one really need some spiritual guidence.

I am in a similar situation, but you know what? I have found that I don't really need to go to a building designated to worship or join a specific religion because most of the religions on this earth have a similar message. Live a good life, be kind to others, and don't kill, lie or steal. Since you obviously have a defined belief structre, try just doing your own thing. Make sure to spend a few moments each day at a certain time to pray, converse with God, or mediate. Write down all of the positive things that have happened to you each day in a journal. And please, know that joinnig an actual religion is not the way for everyone. Our society is too diversified in this day and age for everyone to be able to subscribe to the same, exact school of thought.
To be honest, I doubt we've ever been able to do that, or we wouldn't have so many different types of Christianity, and there wouldn't have been/ be so many deaths in "holy wars" beacuse of different ideas and beliefs.
Hopefully, this wasn't too religious for you. Good luck!

There are so many types of religion now adays. You would have to do some research on the various beliefs of some of them. You might try each sunday going to a different type of church and see how comfortable you are with their services and sermons. I was raised catholic, I hated it and going to church. When I was old enough that my mother could no longer make me go, I stopped for years, then i tried a few differnt types and didn't like those either. I am native american and when I had access to my tribal background, I found where i belonged in the belief system. Good luck in finding the place right for you.

If you want to have a relationship with God, church is exciting because it's a chance to learn more about Him and fellowship with other believers.
You sound confused about what to believe though. I'd tell you to read books by Josh McDowell ("Evidence That Demands a Verdict"), or Lee Strobel ("Case for Christ"), but would you? You said you didn't want religious answers, but your question IS about religion. The above books were written by Christians who used to be atheists and set out to prove Christianity false. At the end of their research, they had no choice but to admit the truth of the Bible, God, and his son Jesus. Give it a try.
No one is hopeless.

If Jesus wasn't divine why did God have sex with Mary?
There are churches out there for all kinds of people.

Jesus is Lord and Savior! He is your Creator and your Redeemer.
Jesus did not commit sin , therefore He did not have sex with Mary.
Jesus is incredibly divine.
You need to know Jesus more and church would not be boring! Just pray and invite him into your heart , ask him if He is real. And give it a few days....you will get a answer if you truly seek Him, like millions of others have.
Sincerely

As an Atheist, I don't like to recommend religions, but the only one I agree with more than the others is Buddhism. Since I doubt that you'll look into it, the religion you're looking for is Judaism.

Despite what the church says, religion and spirituality are highly personal relationships of your own design and effort. In other words, find and define God in your own ways because faith should never be forced.
Also, I have to agree with the suggestions for Unitarian churches and Judaism. Both preach high tolerance and Judaism especially encourages you to question and study religion.

Not with the exact description. Minus the sex part, perhaps the Jewish faith. I don't know any religion that believes God had sex with Mary.
