i had my nipple done some years ago and i was told to dab warm water on it with a bit of salt in. i did this for about 6 weeks and it was fine i can only think the same for your lip. regarding the chapped lips just rub a little lip balm on just careful near your piercing, if you take it out it will be murder to get back in, when you are in the bath or shower try to move the ring round but be care full, then when you have dried yourself off just do the above you will be fine. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ok don't take the ring out! Once the hole closes, any infection remains inside your body and can make it worse, keep cleaning it 2-3 times a day, and use listerine after you eat or drink ANYTHING!
If it continues, return to your piercer and they will give you further advice.
Chapping is normal, it's just something you have to deal with for a while, it stops soon though

I think you have already got an infection now. But you can clear it up no problem. just have a word either with a pharmacist or go make an appointment with the doctor and they will give you some cream or antibiotics to clear it up. Dont worry about it, as its maybe just cos its new and reacted a bit. You will clear it up if you do these things. And good luck and i hope you will be ok

Oh silly people who already replied.. it isn't infected..
Your lips are chapped because it's Winter. Chapped hands/lips are very common in the winter. They burn probably because they are very chapped, mine start burning if they get very chapped and I don't use chap stick.
The swelling that you have/have had in your lips isn't making the chapping any better.
No need to take the jewelry out.
Just stay well hydrated - drink lots of water, and put chapstick on your lips but don't get it near/on the piercing. That can irritate it.
Say if you got your left side pierced, put the chapstick on everything but that side. Or other way around.
It will eventually get better :)

I got my lip done exactly a week ago today, and my lips are extremely chapped aswell.
Since I'm a chapstick addict anywhos, I wear it all the time.
But what I recommend is 'Blistex Complete Moisture' it's a GOD.
It will keep your lips moisturized for hours.
