Both! You need science to understand how we got here, what we're made of, and how we work. If you want to understand the mindset and motivations of humanity, you have to include a study of religion, philosophy, and psychology. Human nature is a sticky and complicated thing that science has not yet been able to reduce to mathematical equations and chemical reactions.

Neither and yet both of them, we can answer the questions ourselves from experience, and this may draw on science, religion or both.
Religion cannot be used alone to answer the question, because there are many religions, some with many different beliefs, some who do not believe in religion at all, and an answer of who we are form one, won't answer anything for a follower of another religion.
Science can tells us much about where we came from to a point in terms of geography, genetics and race. But it really ends there. I think the individual can answer the question for themselves only, based on the sum total of their life. Or perhaps we aren't meant to know the answer till we die, or perhaps there simply isn't one.

Does religion recognize itself if it looks into a mirror?... No!
Does science recognize itself if it looks into a mirror?... No!
Do you recognize yourself if you look into a mirror?..Somewhat!
We see only the physical aspects of ourselves if we look into a mirror!
Man needs a special mirror if he truly wishes to know who and what man really is. We need a mirror that has been thoroughly polished in order to see the real self that lies within this physical body.
Religion and science can give man clues and hints.
In order for humans to become aware of the true self, we must go within and ask questions on the inside. Man must journey within and examine the qualities that inhabit the heart, to truly know himself.
This is a process known as weeding as any good gardener would call it!
"We find out who and what we are, only when we find out who and what we aren't!"
May we all be good gardeners and go within and do some weed removal. Then the good qualities on the inside of man will be seen on the outside of man. Then man has a chance of knowing who and what man really is!
"Peace be always with you."

The best way to find out who you are is to just look in the mirror. That is all there is to you. The sum of your being is there. All that God made is right there looking back at you. Science can answer what you are made of physiologically. How are the parts and pieces fit together and work.
The other part of who you are. Can only be found by looking within. Search your soul and heart. God knows who you are and wants you to know how He is. We are all born with a missing piece that can only be filled by the personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour.
God Bless

Fairy tales are not the best place to find answers dear. Stick to science for serious results.

Neither religion alone nor science alone, it has to be a rational mix of both. Please log on to metahistory.org and read the research works of John Lash and expand your horizons.

Both obviously...the Bible tells us how and why we were created...science is a study of the creation (us) which helps us understand the Creator better.
