December 25th is no different than any other day to a Witnesses. Many do have the day off and take the opportunity to share in the preaching work, knowing there would be many at home and perhaps they would be in a more spiritual mood and willing to talk about Jesus and the bible, since that is what they are suppose to be celebrating.
Our purpose is not to criticize or even talk about Xmas, unless someone asks, we don't bring it up. Our conscience does not allow us to celebrate Xmas, what everyone else does is up to their conscience.
We go door to door to share good news about God's Kingdom in obedience to Jesus command at Matt 24:14 "This good news of the kingdom will be preached to the entire inhabited earth, as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come."

Jehovah's Witnesses don't want to neglect their preaching work. They don't 'take breaks' just because some people take it as an offense when they are told about the good news which even Jesus commanded his disciples to spread all over the world (Matthew 24:14, 28:19,20).
Those who take the 'visits' made by Jehovah's Witnesses on Christmas or other holidays as an offense should reflect to Jesus' reaction when he has been confronted with a similar situation:
"But in response the presiding officer of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus did the cure on the sabbath, began to say to the crowd: “There are six days on which work ought to be done; on them, therefore, come and be cured, and not on the sabbath day.” However, the Lord answered him and said: “Hypocrites, does not each one of you on the sabbath untie his bull or his a s s from the stall and lead it away to give it drink? Was it not due, then, for this woman who is a daughter of Abraham, and whom Satan held bound, look! eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”" -- Luke 13:14-16
The preaching work that Jehovah's Witnesses do is more important than any event. Why? Because people's lives depend on it. The Bible says that only those who have knowledge about God and Jesus will be saved.
"“This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.” -- John 17:3

It is a sad thing when a seeming Christian complains about "the good news" of the Christ.
...(1 Thessalonians 4:8) So, then, the man that shows disregard is disregarding, not man, but God, who puts his holy spirit in you.
...(Galatians 6:3-6) For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he is deceiving his own mind. But let each one prove what his own work is, and then he will have cause for exultation in regard to himself alone, and not in comparison with the other person. For each one will carry his own load. Moreover, let anyone who is being orally taught the word share in all good things with the one who gives such oral teaching.
Ironically, it seems likely that certain householders may be PARTICULARLY interested in spiritual things on a day ostensibly focused on Christ. It seems certain that the angels will use those who make themselves AVAILABLE to be used (see Acts 8:26, 27, 36, 38)
...(Romans 10:14) How, in turn, will they hear without someone to preach?
...(Isaiah 6:8) Jehovah saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I proceeded to say: “Here I am! Send me.”
...(1 Corinthians 9:16-18) Really, woe is me if I did not declare the good news! If I perform this willingly, I have a reward; but if I do it against my will, all the same I have a stewardship entrusted to me. What, then, is my reward? That while declaring the good news I may furnish the good news without cost
Truly, ALL true Christians (such as Jehovah's Witnesses) will choose to share in preaching despite whether conditions seem favorable or troublesome.
...(2 Timothy 4:1-2) I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is destined to judge the living and the dead, and by his manifestation and his kingdom, preach the word, be at it urgently in favorable season, in troublesome season, reprove, reprimand, exhort, with all long-suffering and art of teaching.

Um, I always find it odd on here when people claim to be mad about Christians going around offering to share a scripture or two from the Bible on a day that these same ones offten claim is about Christ.
I am polite when people come to my door.
EDIT
As for why we came on Christmas, is because we go out ALLOT. The fact that those Witnesses ended up at your door, on Christmas is called a coinsidence.

JWs always go door to door. December 25 is no different to them than any other day. Many other people feel the same way. Many also have spiritual questions these days, & especially at this time of year there are a lot of people who are depressed, some even suicidal. JWs offer them comfort & guidance from the Scriptures. JWs are not looking to make converts, but to deliver the warning the Bible indicates for them to be doing in this time.

The only thing I have found effective is to actually invite them in, but don't let them use your bathroom. That should help them keep it short, but you'll get credit for inviting them in and they'll be less likely to come by later.
In general, don't disagree with them, but don't agree with them either, and tell them you want to hear what they say, but you are an "open minded" and "researching" type of person who probably won't come to the kingdom hall right away.
That was the first time I have ever heard a JW say, "Listen man, I'd love to talk but I really have to go."
Peace
And do try keeping an open mind when you talk to others abt religion... it makes the day go by faster.

I have had Jehovah's witnesses come to my door on many occasions, and I always greet them with friendship and a smile, but that's the way I treat everyone.
You have a good day.

That is pretty bold, I must say. I wonder if they are thinking that there might be someone alone on Christmas, who might be willing to do a little study with them just to have company.

My only problem with Jehovah witnesses is that they teach Salvation through works and this is not what the free gift of Christ is all about at all. If they were teaching the true Gospel than any day would be a good day to tell you about it. Yet this could have been a good opportunity for you to tell them what Christmas is truly about.

When I see The Thoughts Some Of You Have. Ask Them Why They Come.
Many claim to be Thinking about Jesus Durring this Day,
And We teach from the scripture what Jesus ask Us to.
Some are busy with family and friends, and some want to talk to get away from their family and friends. LOL
