The Blu-ray isn't costing them as much as you would think. Sony along with Pioneer developed Blu-ray together. What is costing them is some of the other features they have put into the system. But no, I do not see the price dropping... for at least two years.

I think that the 80GB PS3's price may drop next Christmas season and I think that the 40GB PS3's price may drop this summer or sometime between next Christmas season as well.

As far as Sony and Blu-Ray, Sony knew what they were doing when they installed the PS3 with Blu-Ray. For every PS3 that Sony sells, they are selling a Blu-Ray Player. Sony is getting more Blu-Ray players into the homes of people faster because not that many people want to buy just a Stand-Alone Blu-Ray DVD player right now, but they will buy the PS3 because it's a gaming console with Blu-Ray for the same price and even cheaper than most expensive Blu-Ray players.

Blueray is winning the format war..Blockbuster will only rent out blueray as hd format and Alienware only offers blueray as it's hd drive option on their high end gaming computer which is a huge boost for blueray because now pc game developers can take advantage of teh 50 gig of disc space for games that teh blueray provides...Target only carries Blueray players as hd hardware. no hddvd players. THe list goes on and on...disney only releases to dvd and blueray, no hddvd.

THe war isn't over Toshiba is supposedly creating an hd entertainment computer that hooks up to teh tv much like the ps3 except it will have hddvd and rumored 360 game capability...

Prices for ps3 will come down again as soon as april when the production cost go down as more companies are turning to the cell broadband and blueray formats... it should come down around $100 and then when toshiba releases the hddvd computer center with 360 capability the ps3 should be down around $350.

Not anytime soon, I think this is the reason why they made the 40gb (with no ability to play ps2 games), to avoid having to drop prices in the near future.
