There are a number of goals I'd like to work towards (e.g. getting married, buying a house, settling down). But I get really discouraged sometimes. For example, I feel like at my age I already "should" have property and be more settled. Then I start comparing myself to others who are where I want to be and I start feeling depressed and anxious.

How do you work towards your goals without letting yourself get discouraged in the face of obstacles and past disappointments?

Remember that, in HS when you had to write an essay the teacher always wanted an OUTLINE? You took the major areas you wanted to cover (good job, married, house) and then broke them down into the bits that would make up the whole (training/education, standards for a mate, savings account). Apply the same to your personal life. Hit ONE item at a time and build yourself up until you can handle it all all the time. Everyone does it this way: some in their heads, some on paper.

Don't worry about what you didn't do in the past, like buying a home. Don't compare yourself to others.

Put a plan together with short, medium and long range goals.
A short term goal can be getting a better job. A medium range goal can be working for a promotion and/or finding and buying a home. A long term goal can be attaining the medium term goals and them setting new goals.

If you are smart enough to ask the question, then you are smart enough to obtain the goals.

First of all quit worrying about what others think. You can in no way control what others think. You just can't. And if you compare yourself to others you will always come up short. My mind if I let it always tells me I am less than this guy, or this girl etc. etc.. If you want to be happy live your own life and do what truly makes you happy. Blessings
