i am scared to swear infront of my parents and im 18 years old. it is a serious problem and its controlling my life.ever since i was little my mom made us terrified to say any swear word even some minor swearwords like "damit" and "hell". it is so insane how far i will go just so my mom wont find out i sware. for example when ever i bring friends over i tell them that they cant swear in my house because then my mom might findout and i would get in so much trouble. also my mom and dad are split up and when we visit my dad we won't swear because i dont want him to know i sware either because i feel like im doing something wrong if i sware.also im afriad to kiss or touch or even look at girls when my parents around. i think it has already made me loose my mind. what do you think?

and sorry about spelling i have dislexia

Sounds like you have a bad case of potty mouth. Swearing just makes you look ignorant. I often wonder why so many people can't even speak without using profanity. The fear that you have is a healthy one. So go wash your mouth out and quit acting like it's so cool to swear and that you just can't live without it. If your friends keep swearing why don't you consider finding some friends with a little more values. If you were my son and I heard you cussing I'd spank your little butt. "So be afraid, be very afraid".

Why would you want to use swear words in the first place? Using swear or cuss words is a form of ignorance. They are the crude crutch for a limited vocabulary. They do not make you sound cool or smart. When I hear young people (or any person for that matter) using bad language it is a real turn off. It doesnt impress me or make me want to speak with that person any longer than I have to. You will gain no points with other family members, employers, educators or classy women etc..by using swear words. Figure out a way to over come the desire to use bad language.
Having intimate contact with girls when your parents are around should be avoided anyway. You should respect your parents and restrain from that type of activity in their presence. It sounds to me like your mother has tried to raise you to be respectful and not have a gutter mouth. My hat is off to your mom.

Jay, you've turned this into a phobia and you've got to stop it NOW. You are l8 years old and you should not be swearing in front of your parents. I think your not swearing in front of them shows a sign of respect on your part and everyone admires that but it was your moms job to keep you from swearing as a child, granted she went a bit overboard by scaring you so badly, but, you're a big boy now so ease up on yourself.

If you are still living at home try hard not to slip up but if you do just say,"Sorry mom, slipped up there, I'll try to watch it in the future," and mean it. It clearly makes you nervous to kiss a girl in front of your parents so don't but if you feel like putting your arm around her in a gentlemanly fashion, do it. Moms got to get used to the idea that you're a big boy now and SO DO YOU. Good luck .

I think that if you don't feel comfortable swearing in front of your parents then maybe you shouldn't be when you not with them. I have the same problem so i try my best not to swear no matter who im with. You have respect for your parents and thats hard to come by with the kids of todays society.

Yeah, First accepting that it is irrational fear is good! And your 18 years old, and just outta respect don't be swearing anyway around your parents and if by accident don't worry! say sorry and keep talking, I doubt it is gonna make them go mental, It will be ok, I say if your mad and want to rant then rant in the pillow or to your friends, remember though in the end your fearing why? Will they hit you or something? why is it a fear i think that is the second important factor.

I think that one thing it's nothing to see with the other, first your parents needs respect from you!, but you can't loose your mind because you can't kiss or touch or even look at girls, what do they think you are?, you already are 18 years old, that's not good . You need a counsellor, and your mother too. Read a book "Your erroneous zones" by Dye Wayne, it will change your life. You're an adult already!

I HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO!!!
but be thankful that you dont have a swearing problem.
That would be much worse. As for the girls, another good thing. Any parent would be mad if you started making out in front of them. Its good you dont have a problem like that either.

Your parents can't do too much about it, because it is just swearing. Stop worrying about it so much. You should be able to look at, touch appropriately and kiss girls quickly when your parents are around. You are not losing your mind. You are just paranoid. I'm sorry you have dyslexia.

Why do you need to swear in the first place?

Swearing makes a person look stupid. I had a boyfriend and every other word was F*CKing... it got to be tiring.

And i listened to him, and the longer i knew him, the dumber he sounded.

Everyone cusses once in a while, but including it into your daily vocabulary isn't that great..

Like others said, not swearing is respectful, good manners. Girls on the otherhand, wanting to look at girls, is normal for a guy, it especially becomes big in your teenage years. If your mom does end up getting mad at you for having anything to do with girls, just explain to her that it's normal.
