We have lived here for over 2 years and two women moved in below 1 month ago. They have no furniture and smoke away from there apartment not on there porch like away from the apartment. Well a couple of days ago we are getting an odd smell in our bathroom. I can't describe the smell. I have never smelt anything like it before. It becomes very strong when they start to run there bathroom fan and gets much weaker when it is off. I am worried it is some kind of drug. I have three children 2 young twins under 4 months. Any ideas??

they borrowed my iron and never brought it back so I went down to get it. This was right when the smell came and she answered the door but barely opened it and then shut the door in my face and brought the iron to me. When she handed out the iron she had to open the door more. All I could see where some trash bags on the empty aprtment

It sounds like meth. Call the landlord and if they don't answer.. call the fire department and act concerned.... I'm sure they can let you know if it's meth.

That sounds VERY fishy... I have a sneaking suspicion that there might be a meth lab there. You need to get the authorities involved somehow... like I said, just call the fire department and innocently tell them you're smelling something strange and just worried about it... They'll know what's up.

Baking powder ideas many times get rid of odors. Are you confident its purely coming from there and not the drain itself? in any different case something is jammed in that little hollow or interior the section that connects it to the drain. if so, that must be the smell that in the time of no way is going away! attempt shaking up a stable answer of baking powder and water and then pouring it in there with the stopper stopped. Then launch it. now and back the bicarbonate grabs in spite of the fact that is stenching in there and takes it down into the sewer. this could additionally be a challenge related to a septic tank. in case you're on septic quite than sewer, that little section between the hollow and the drain isn't J bent like the drain which works to a P-catch. That J bend is designed to catch odors at the back of a small volume of water interior the bend on the septic facet.

Call the landlord. They could have a meth lab down there, with a possible explosion hazard (that's why they don't smoke near the apt.). The suggestion about the fire department is even better. You and your kids could be in danger. Don't confront the women directly.

Well, there are so many products on the market, incense and candles. It could easily be this esp. around bath time, and with the vent drawing it upward.

If you knew some who had a "nose" for drug odors, bring them in for a sniff test.

Maybe some animal is kept in this area, some animals have definite odor characteristics.

You should probably have someone come in your house to identify the smell. Or better yet, when you smell it, run downstairs and say your bathroom is clogged up and you need to really use theirs.
Could be a drug, could be incense!
Good luck!

I agree, call the landlord and let him confront them about it. If it is a plumbing problem or some other problem he needs to know about it.

hummmmmmmmmm there is one more possibility.

If what you are spelling is a strong ammonia odor GET OUT OF THERE NOW. They are probably running a meth lab.

I don't mean to be mean but, MOVE OUT ALREADY! Look, it's obviously NOT the kind of life style that you want to be living right? Or go down there and out your foot down! Tell them that they need to either do somrthing with the odor because it's def. not you. it's probably a drug, or just a nasty house. Good luck!
