Stopping off in NYC for a few days this August. We are interested in frequenting a local hostel. Do you have any reccommendations?

Safety is imperitive as is cleanliness (I am traveling with teen girls and two of the group have severe allergies to mold/mildew.)

Thank you

Hi Kibbles and anyone else wondering...
The atmosphere of a HOSTEL is great. People from all over the globe frequent Hostels. These people are, on the most part, friendly and interested in meeting others. My girls should not be denied the opportunity to meet new people just because some have medical issues.

Below is a link to a NYC Hostel Rating and other info board:

I agree that the environment in these places has a different (friendly) feel, but also the group should understand that these are bare bones types of accommodations - so there will be no disappointments and complaints.

I met someone staying at the Chelsea International Hostel and I spent some time - in common areas with her. The location of this place is great, but I thought the room she was in, the Kitchen area and the TV room needed to be 'spruced up'.

Try the American Youth Hostel which is located on Amsterdam Avenue between 103rd and 104th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Enjoy you trip

they are all located in older buildings and i would be very concenered with the possablety of mold. AYH is the safest most family friendly and has made eferts on controlling mold.
