Do you think we will ever see Vatican III happen?

And, if so, when? And why?

If there is a Third Vatican Council one day, what would be the major issues, themes, and questions to be addressed?

I hope so! I agree with LilMissy too: nothing is going to change for the better with this ex-Nazi pope.

But should we ever get another wise and liberal one like John Paul I, women priests, gay relationship blessings, married priests, and a broadening of the Sacrament of Reconciliation are all things I hope are at least discussed.

Why? The Church knows it can't be a monolith. It has to change as the Holy Spirit moves it. But it always does so reluctantly and very, VERY slowly.

The Church's understanding of Dogma deepens with the passing of time. It seems logical to assume that, just as there have been several Ecumenical Councils in the past, there will be more held in the future.

There is no way of knowing when the next Council will take place, where - though it will probably be at the Vatican. As for the reason, we can only speculate.

interesting question. vatican 2 is still in the process of being explained and utilised and implememted so i think the third vatican council is still a long way from now, maybe not even in my lifetime, i am only 24. as for issues, many have pointed to things such as prochoice in rape and murder, women in the priesthood however i highly doubt these will be issues as the catholic church must remain in the truth despite of social pressures. i do think the priesthood may be discussed but more for the shortage problem and how to rectify it.

i think a main concern would be for the church to remain catholic, teach catholic and for the laity to stand firm in an ever changing environment and society that is fast declining in morals and faith. the church may become like it was in the first centuries, under stronger criticism and trials than we face today, unifying our seperated brothers and sisters in christ should always be a goal to be discussed but under difficulty it is hard to come to a solution. all in all i think whenever it happens and whatever is discussed in the next council the important thing to remmeber is that we are the church that jesus christ established and we must as always remain in the truth as we always have, jesus demands it of us and the holy spirit is keeping us in it, as you would expect from his church.

god bless.

If there ever were a Third Vatican Council, I'd guess that the following issues might be addressed:

1. Admission of women into the priesthood.
2. Whether to continue to require celibacy among the clergy.

a million. identity: we don't belong to the Church; we are the Church. Clergy do no longer come till now the laity, yet are co-equivalent with them in God's eyes. Non-Catholics and non-Christians are additionally infants of God and could nevertheless gain salvation. 2. Inclusion of the laity: use of the vernacular, priest dealing with the persons, lectors and Eucharistic ministers, incorporation of community and nationwide customs, etc. 3. examining and Interpretation of the Bible : extremely everyone (no longer purely priests and theologians) ought to study the Bible and get ready it to their lives. Passages must be interpreted protecting in thoughts the literary form and historic context.

Most likely, but I dont think with this Pope.... maybe in about three or four Popes.... that's a horrible way of timing things.

What will be questioned? whatever is being debated at the time- and the mergence

EDIT: Nothing wrong with our Pope, I just dont think its time for another Council. And we arnt going to change the sacraments! God set them up

Well, since St Malachi prophecied that the next pope, peter the Roman, will be the LAST pope, I suspect the next council will decide whether or not to continue the Catholic Church or not. If Jesus has arrived by then, they just might close up shop.

Ex Catholic. Great question. Main one I think will be addressed is Priests being forced to remain single. I'm sure youll also see prochoice for rape/death of mother, possibly even gay marriage, though that one is hard to imagine. Alot of Catholic adherents arent as legalistic as the Church is, so its hard to imagine official church doctrine changing to include this.

That all depends on how the Pope is inspired by God/Jesus.

Wow Jon M ,

The church too difficult for you?
Try carrying the cross of Jesus, He carried it for us and we have the nerve to think all the rules must change to fit our lifestyle?
